Red on new Leeds home kit for 2024/25 season causes a stir with fans

Red on the new Leeds United home kit for the 2024/25 season causes a stir with their fans after their unveiling their new strip on Friday.

The shirt was leaked on social media in days leading up to the launch, with much of the talk on the colour of their rivals Man Utd, which is used in the large Red Bull logo as the front-of-shirt sponsor.

This isn’t however the first time the Whites have had a front-of-shirt sponsor which features red, having had previous sponsors Red Kite, Bet24 and Packard Bell all include that particular colour in their branding.

Red Bull acquired a minority stake in Leeds soon after the team’s defeat in the Championship playoff final last season.

They have said there would be no name or crest changes, but instead just the logo on the front of their shirt. It also features a blue and yellow trim on the collar and shoulders/sleeves.

Reaction to the kit has been mixed, with some fans expressing disappointment over the inclusion of the red, many instead hoped that the Red Bull logo could be in club colours.

Over the years, Leeds has made a deliberate effort to distance itself from the colour red, even going so far as to have previous shirt sponsors 32Red display their name in blue.

Red Bull currently owns RB Leipzig in Germany, Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, New York Red Bulls in the US and Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil, marking their first foray into English football.

As mentioned, Red on new Leeds home kit for the 2024/25 season causes a stir with fans, this is what Twitter users had to say…

@LeethalWood: REDBULL HAVE USED RED BULLS 🤬

@jamesonrgb: Red logo? Horri-bull decision!

@leedsthat: “It’s only a bit of red, grow up you’re an adult!”, “It’s just a shirt/logo” and “Red Bull paid us a lot, so they can do what they want.” That’s the point. If WE let brands and businesses change the club more and more, we dilute who we are and our values. Remember where it started and question everything. #lufc

@WhiteKnightLUFC: The bulls would have looked much better in blue. Sure it will grow on us

@s90rny: I’m gutted they didn’t use a blue version of that monstrosity on the shirt 😢 each to their own but 🤮 #lufc

@jhealey89: The red bull copy in blue would have been better and more recognised. I know they do this with their other shirts and have confidence the brand is strong enough just from the sun and bulls. But aesthetics are a thing too….

@BenJDufton: Looks shite. The RB logo is just terrible to begin with and proportionally this all looks off. The red is really jarring in contrast with the rest of the kit. 🤢

@PeterWainwrig8: Bulls would have been better in blue. Would have suited the rest of the shirt better!! The club have had enough advice about this, but hey ho let’s sell out

@craigroybrown: Having red anywhere on the kit is wrong.

@Cleeve_White: Red Bull are going to learn a lesson.

@Joeleeds90: Not terrible, I’m not one of those fussed by red on the shirt bit I do feel if the bulls were blue it would’ve fit much better.

@GeorgeJ199: Everything is nice about that kit but the sponsor ruins it a little bit

@adamslufc: Too much red #LUFC isn’t red We’re the Whites. And blue. And yellow.

@chosserbop: Umm nice apart from red …. How hard would it have been to to take the red out…. It has been done before at other red bull clubs 🤔

@KatrinaLUFC28: 😳😳😳😳😳 get rid of the red ffs

@Lufc74: @lufc why have you put red on the shirt you idiots. I for one will not be buying one and I know lord others who won’t either. #lufc

@jst1986: I like it. I’d like it more if it didn’t have the Red on it. #lufc

@JoxTox: Meh, the logo ruins it, it’s just not a very nice logo.
