Reading fans plot to boycott attending matches as their club announce increased season ticket prices while the owner keeps quiet.
Since the Royals’ relegation to League One a few weeks back, fans haven’t heard from their owner.
After finishing in 22nd place, and a points deduction, the Royals were relegated to the third division of English football. This is the first time they’ve done so since 2001/02.
Fans will have to pay an additional £25 per season for season tickets from 2023/24.
According to RDG.Today, Reading are still able, despite their decision to raise prices, to offer League One football at a relatively low price compared to the other teams in the division.
Ipswich Town charged £624.50 for adults last season when they won promotion from League One into the Championship, whereas Reading will charge £425 in 2023/24.

He’s M.U.R.T.Y and he’s scoring from the spot to tot up a fairytale 106 points, a record we proudly still hold. When the comeback was on against the Swans in the capital, only for the base of that post to halt Jem’s drive in its tracks! A sacred Wembley win to lift Simod Cup silverware, against all the odds we fired four and made history.
I was there then, I’ll be there again.
Tom McIntyre’s Easter feast – the winner at the Lane before an eighth-goal equaliser to complete a magical Monday! Yann scoring from the spot to oust Fulham in front of a full house, only for the penalty spot to haunt us against Huddersfield in the final. Shane’s headed winner at Anfield, dumping the mighty Liverpool out of the famous competition they’ve won so many times before.
I was there then, I’ll be there again.
Alfie at the double at St Mary’s to edge us to the very brink of a top flight return. That confident 4-0 win at Pride Park which was just not enough, scores went against us and our inflatables stayed up but we didn’t. G’s strike under the arches that threatened to upset Arsenal before Sanchez squirmed a strike over the line in extra-time.
I was there then, I’ll be there again.
In football, the successes taste so much sweeter when you’ve truly earned them, when you battle through the disappointments and bravely endure the lows, to see your team rise from the ashes and graduate to glory.
The rollercoaster will continue. There will be dips, there will be peaks. But you’ve got to get on board to enjoy the ride!
You are loyal, you are committed, you are loud and proud, you back the boys and you make some noise. You love your club. Be there.

Here’s what fans are saying as some Reading fans say they are to boycott as the club announce increased season ticket prices while the owner keeps quiet…
@shanerolo: Back to watching my local non league side it is, such ashame as was looking at renewing mine and the boys season ticket
@FC_7_7: 50% increase in price for some of those, under 10k average attendance it is then
@surrey1871: Yes I was there with several rel and pro in the same or higher Div than Brighton Brentford Palace. Etc Now look how good management and plan made then solid premier teams while we watch our slide . Have no issue with ST increase. But no I won’t be there
@ALEXB1871: £425 for league one football lol
@AndyRFCCharman: Wow! £25 quid cashback for persuading a friend (very soon to be ex-friend) to shell out for a season ticket! 🤣 #readingfc
@JoshSB91: Not a single word from the club or the owner about relegation. And then you increase prices after a relegation. Disgrace of a club
@BredIncognito: cant even go to games and I feel ripped off by these prices, have some shame 👍
@CScott___: Yet again, the club let the fans down. You lot are SO FAR out of touch it’s laughable.
@F8RDR: Wow. Despite the explanation, which I do buy, seeing an increase in ST prices is a bitter pill to swallow and will only result in reduced sales and people buying individual games. Is that extra really going to make the difference when you could have reduced and got better sales?
@Oi_Ffreshrfc: Can this club just be normal for one day lol
@GlenSTFC: Dear all disgruntled Royals, switch your allegiance to the Rebels with season tickets just £195 including all home friendlies. Enjoy a pint on the terraces within a friendly, party atmosphere and cheer on ex-Royal Scott Davies and his team.
@BuddNigel: An increase in season ticket prices for L1 is absolutely outrageous.
@maxiebadger: No message from owners. No message from our ‘captain’. Club is a shambles
@Royals_360: No manager, no plan. Relegation and still you’ve increased prices. Why should we renew?
@RFCFan77: How about a statement from our shambolic owner about us getting relegated?
@Joshallen_2002: I’m alright thanks
@ChrisH1871: 425? Wtf? It’s league 1, not super league
@PAN1F: Club scores yet another own goal by putting up the season ticket prices. After relegation and in a cost of living crisis. Who knew that holding the price all those years would come back to bite them on the arse? #readingfc
@FPLObserver: Can’t see us filling half the stadium per game next season, unless we’re in the running for promotion. 8,000 gates incoming… #ReadingFC
@claredoc76: Whoa! Seriously!? £££££££
@stuey_morris: I was thinking of getting a season ticket…..not now!
@ox12_ding: How to continue to kill a fan base. This club will be lucky to see crowds over 10k all season long. Fans have already voted with their feet in season’s gone by and they continue to drive us away with “comparative pricing”. Big own goal @ReadingFC @RFCSupport #readingfc
@Jordo_Grittt: I get the increase, it’s overdue, but not a single word from the Owner, DoF or Captain since relegation or prior to this message. The club is a circus! #readingfc
@tylerrzrl4: The season we’ve just had and you’re increasing the price 😂😂
@Emerson1988: Read the room @ReadingFC, we’ve just been relegated and you put the price up to watch lesser quality of football. Season ticket sales would’ve inevitably dropped following relegation but you’ve made it even worse. – Unbelievable! #readingfc
@RoyalStu1871: The club had such a opportunity with the relegation to reconnect with the fans. Bowen could talk about the planned rebuild, how the team will reconnect with the fans/region. How this club will be rebuilt. Yet they have stayed silent and thrown out the ST renewal video. #readingfc
