Reading fans praise Ruben Selles for what he said on controversial decisions in his side’s 2-1 defeat at Derby County on Tuesday night.
Selles responded in a diplomatic manner to being asked about the refereeing decisions that went against his side in their defeat to Derby County.
Reading believed that Dwight Gayle’s first goal was offside, and there was also a discussion about whether Andy Yiadom fouled Conor Hourihane, resulting in a second yellow card and subsequent red card.
With Reading reduced to 10 players, Joel Pereira was then adjudged to have fouled on Dwight Gayle, who appeared to have handled the ball before being brought down.
Reading supporters expressed their frustration after the game, but Selles chose to keep his thoughts mostly to himself in the aftermath of the match, knowing that a punishment was likely to come his and the club’s way if he did, and the club are struggling as it is.

“I am proud of the fight my team put in. They’re a very difficult team, one of the best in the category,” he said, per Derby Telegraph.
“The first half was difficult for us, but we started the second half really strong. In an action we concede a goal, we came back and scored but then the red card with 10 men is always difficult.”
“I looked at the replays and made my own decision. We will fight against anyone and everyone in our way.
“If we need to play harder, score five goals and go more, then we will do it as these players have fought against everything thrown at us. Today was another example of how competitive we can be. Derby are a really good team and the game was equal in the moment, but the decisions weren’t on our side.”
“I’ll need to speak with our legal team,” Selles said, per BBC Sport.
“I think that the footage is so obvious that we should be able to appeal it, maybe the EFL should change their rules.”
Ruben Selles also felt Derby’s first goal scored by Dwight Gayle was offside.
The result leaves Ruben Selles’ side in 18th place, five points clear of the relegation zone. The past weeks have seen the club publicly share it is willing to entertain offers for its training ground.
Financial figures for March also shows that there is a shortfall with BBC Sport claiming that to be about £1m.
“We will fight against everything and anyone who is in our way,” Selles told BBC Radio Berkshire.
He said via the club website: “I’m very proud of the way we came here and tried to compete in a difficult opening half an hour against a very good team. Second half we were more on the front foot and had a couple of positive situations but we conceded from a free kick. We came back into the game and scored but the red card for Andy changes the last part of the game completely. We were competitive until the very end and I’m proud of the boys who started and the ones who came off the bench, and we can move forward.
It’s a difficult place to come. I expected more control from our side but I know it’s difficult to play games like this evening. They were on the front foot and wanted to cause pressure and we needed a bit of time to read how they were going to come at us, but I think we managed to get more competitive in the game and the second half we got to where we wanted.
The games are always difficult when you go away and we managed to get back into the game. I think we deserved to get something but unfortunately we didn’t.
Joel was fantastic today, the team were also fantastic. He was going to be busy when you come up against this kind of team and he made the very best of the occasion.
We needed the subs’ energy for the final part of the game and we decided to go with two strikers to try and get something from the game. We put them under pressure and the boys gave them everything that they have and we can move forward trying to be competitive.”
Derby boss Paul Warne said: I thought we were in complete control in the first half, did really well and created really good chances. In fairness to Reading, I don’t enjoy playing against them because they are young and athletic and keep going. It caused us problems. I thought we were still in control in the second half but ironically when we scored, we conceded straight away. We missed opportunities to stop the ball getting to where it ended up. We created more than enough chances to win it, even though both of our goals were probably on the side of fortuitous. It’s just about winning the next one and the next one.”
On what Dwight Gayle has added to the team… “He’s added a number nine that we obviously didn’t have. He’s added goals, enthusiasm and a massive desire to win. He’s just a threat in and around the box. He possibly could have had another one tonight, but he’s done really well. The reason we put this group together is because we need people that are going to care, care about the club, each other and their careers. You’ve got to play every match like it’s your last and I think a lot of the lads did tonight. You need players that care and Dwight is definitely one of those.”
On the home game against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday… “I said to the lads at the end, they are in a position where they don’t need to worry about anyone else. If they win their games, then they have done it. There will be loads of ups and downs and twists and turns. Bolton had a good result tonight against Oxford and will come here with confidence to play what should be a good game.”
