Quarter Final results from the 2024 National League, North and South playoffs

The Quarter Final results from the 2024 National League, North and South playoffs are in with teams advancing to the next stage.

The National League’s most exciting and watched regular season in its history has reached a thrilling end but the playoff drama is just beginning.

Here’s what you need to understand about the National League playoffs and how it is playing out…

Important to add while Altrincham originally qualified for the playoff quarter-finals, Gateshead’s exclusion meant that Altrincham were awarded a walkover win and progressed directly the semi-finals.

Gateshead were excluded from the play-offs due to not meeting the Football League’s ground ownership requirements, namely failing to attain a 10-year security of tenure for the Gateshead International Stadium.

It was initially announced that as a result of Gateshead’s withdrawal, Solihull Moors would receive a bye to the semi-finals.

A second statement was later put out by the National League, adjusting the structure of the play-offs to be based on final league positions.

This revision meant that Altrincham would automatically advance to the semi-finals to face Bromley, whilst Solihull Moors would face FC Halifax Town in the quarter-finals.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Halifax, who were playing their 5th game in 12 days, found themselves 3-0 down by 38 minutes through goals from Tahvon Campbell, Jack Stevens and an own goal from Tylor Golden.

Jack Evans and substitute Florent Hoti got it back to 3-2 to, then Rob Harker’s header hit the bar, and then Jamey Osborne settled it with a fourth goal for the Moors in the 86th minute.

Solihull Moors manager Andy Whing said to BBC Radio WM: “We started off like a house on fire. The first half-hour we were unstoppable and it could have been more, Jack Stevens had two or three really good chances he’d score on another day.

“Then they threw caution to the wind being 3-0 down and threw an extra body in the box just before half time which was disappointing and put us on edge a little bit.

“We sank perhaps a little bit too deep, which was understandable, and they scored a worldy, and you think ‘Here we go, it’s the play-offs, anything can happen’. Then they hit the bar and Jamey Osborne scored a wonder goal, he did it on his own.”

George Elokobi said on Maidstone’s dramatic playoff win over Aveley, per KentOnline: “The results on Saturday meant two exceptional sides could get together for round three and what a battle it was.

“What a great advert for National League South and for Maidstone United Football Club.

“The players have come out and executed the game plan perfectly. Everyone was magnificent.

“That’s the character of our players this season – we never give up.

“We didn’t go behind by playing badly, it was good play and a good cross by Aveley and we respect that.

“But the one thing we said in the changing room is we can’t get carried away with emotions.

“We needed to stick to the game plan and keep playing with freedom but be patient because we knew they were quite compact in terms of setting up in a mid-low block.

“The spaces were out wide and we needed to have some good movement in the half-spaces and keep switching the play as quickly as we could.

“Then we’re going to hurt them because they have to move where the ball is and that will wear them down and open up space for our forward players.

“We’d created some good chances in the first half and we said, second half, you have to be ruthless, you have to be relentless.

“When you get that one opportunity, make sure you take it because you won’t have too many.

“Their keeper was on fine form but it was good to see Matt Rush getting that goal and with Mo Faal on it gave them a different problem to solve.

“He was exceptional in terms of the link-up play between him, Matt Bentley and Matt Rush and he deserved his goal.

“We stretched them in different ways and that’s the dynamism within our squad.”

Bath City boss Jerry Gill tweeted: “Very few hours sleep and a day of reflection. Gutted to go out in playoffs but a season of positivity and achievement with our resources. The group of players that gave absolutely everything who have been a pleasure to work with week in week out. You energised me !!

“Finish 6th on merit with record clean sheets and goals galore. An exciting brand of football watched by a record average attendance since 1970 of 1,400. Finishing above all local rivals (apart from full time Yeovil) yet again. Another player recruited and sold to the EFL.

“My incredible football staff – Jim (Assistant) who challenged me and made me think, Dean (GK coach), Aaron (Sports Science), Lee and Sarah (Medical team), Simon (Kit man) Molly (intern) all the @BathSpaUni students and staff who have been part of matchdays at TP.

“All the staff at TP on a matchday along with the volunteers. Special mention to Paul Williams my go to every day over the course of the season. Nick Blofeld and the board for their support and backing.

“@bathrecgm for looking after the pitch so well in horrendous weather. Quentin (secretary) who is stepping down in the summer for all his hard work and support to me personally. Our amazing media team Matt, Mark and Dave plus Simon the photographer. Ady the coach driver.

“To @redzoneanalysis who have played such a huge part in helping us prepare and reflect on games so professionally. To all the sponsors this season. What makes me happy is the connection this season between staff, players and YOU the loyal supporters it’s been special.

“I am so proud to lead @BathCity_FC as manager. We are the envy of many clubs. We keep our class and dignity we do things properly and continue to focus on us. A summer break is needed but it won’t be long until we are back ready to do it all again! Gaffer ⚽️ #Romans 🖤”
