Premier League’s top 10 fastest players for the 2019/20 season

The Premier League’s top 10 fastest players for the 2019/20 season has been revealed, and the footballer at number 1 isn’t who you think it is.

The top tier of the English game is full of players that have the talent to turn defence into attack within a matter of seconds.

To give light on the matter, Opta have listed the top ten-speed merchants who have featured in the top-flight this campaign.

Coming in at number 10 is Manchester City’s 20 year old midfielder Phil Foden.

The England under 21 international, who is starting to get an increasing amount of first team games under his belt, clocked a top speed of 23.07mph.

Staying in Manchester, the number nine spot goes to United’s Brazilian midfielder Fred.

He enjoyed a great season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was one of the first names to be mentioned on the team-sheet before the return of Paul Pogba.

This season Fred was recorded at 23.17mph during one of his runs this season.

Moving much more down south now and it is Southampton’s Shane Long at number eight.

The Saints’ Irish forward, who made 31 appearances in all competitions this campaign, made be 33 years of age, however, he’s still go the pace and power to cause quite an impact on the pitch.

The Irishman clocked up a top speed of 23.21mph, making him faster than Fred and young Phil Foden.

Comming in at number seven is Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who hit a top speed of 23.27mph during the campaign.

The 22 year old has also, like Phil Foden, started to feature int eh first team more regularly for the Gunners under Mikel Arteta, and it is likely that he will improve on his top speed next season should he continue to be played.

Leicester City’s Turkish defender Caglar Soyuncu, who has featured over 30 times compared to the six appearances of the previous season, occupies the number six spot.

He has clocked a top speed of 23.33mph, which is incredibly quick for a centre-back, though he isn’t the only defender in this ranking. Read on to see which player beats him.

The next fastest top speed was set at 23.36mph, however this was something not just one but three players was recorded at.

The first of these was Manchester United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who has started getting forward with more regularity in the last few months.

A new kid on the block, but also Wan-Bissaka’s teammate is Mason Greenwood, regularly impressive performances this season has really shown how much of a bright future this lad has going forward.

Matching the same speed as the Red Devils duo is Aston Villa and Egypt national team forward Trezeguet, who helped chip in 6 goals towards his side’s relegation survival.

So, we are now down to just the two players to have a faster speed than Man City’s Phil Foden (23.07mph), Man Utd’s Fred (23.17mph), Southampton’s Shane Long (23.21mph), Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles (23.27mph), Leicester’s Caglar Soyuncu (23.33mph), Man Utd’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Mason Greenwood and Villa’s Trezeguet (23.36mph).

Coming in second is pacy Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Adama Traore, who set his top speed at 23.48mph.

The Spaniard has been widely regarded by many to be the fastest man in football, but this season, the stats don’t like, as he failed to register the highest speed of any player in the Premier League.

So gets that well deserved accolade? You might be surprised to know that that goes to the player at number one in Manchester City’s full-back Kyle Walker, who reached a blisteringly fast top speed of 23.49mph this season.
