Portsmouth’s Paddy Lane produces sh*thouse celebration after killing off Lincoln’s playoff hopes

Portsmouth’s Paddy Lane produces a sh*thouse celebration after killing off Lincoln’s playoff hopes on the final day of the season.

The Imps’ chances of securing a spot in the League One playoffs were dashed when they suffered a 2-0 defeat against the champions Portsmouth at Sincil Bank on Saturday.

In the second half, Lincoln had a penalty, but Pompey keeper Will Norris made a remarkable save to deny Daniel Mandroiu’s attempt.

With only 10 minutes left on the clock, Myles Peart-Harris put the Blues ahead, shattering Lincoln’s hopes. Paddy Lane then sealed the victory with a late goal.

Portsmouth manager John Mousinho’s former team, Oxford United, managed to secure the fifth playoff spot due to his side’s win and Northampton’s late equaliser against Barnsley.

Paddy Lane was on the wind up, doing a celebration that had the away fans laughing…

Pompey boss John Mousinho said: “I’m delighted. I know we didn’t need anything from the game, but to come to an in-form side and win in the style we did was great.

“We wanted to reward the fans and after a bit of damp squib last week, you could see what it meant to us.

“In the first half we controlled the game and as it wore on, we started to create some good chances, without being able to put the ball int the back of the net.

“Lincoln pressed us a lot higher after the break, but that opened up other parts of the football pitch and we looked really threatening on the counter.

“That’s where we scored both our goals and we could have had a few more, so I’m pleased with the win.”

Mousinho made six changes for the game, with Norris named captain in the absence of Marlon Pack.

He said: “Will made a massive save and has been outstanding for us this season. He’s a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch – that’s why we gave him the armband.

“Marlon’s been struggling for the past few weeks with his groin and hamstrings, but has been getting through it.

“We also gave chances to some guys and I wanted to see Ryley Towler at the back, which is why he came in for Sean Raggett.

“I wasn’t putting a team out just to give guys minutes, though – we thought that side could win and obviously we did.”

Lincoln head coach Michael Skubala said after his side’s second loss in just 20 games: “We’re all gutted with the result. Again, we didn’t start as we do usually but we worked ourselves into the game and I felt in the second half when we came back we were in the ascendency. However, moments change games.

“Portsmouth are a good team and when we had to chase and throw things at it, we had to open the game up and knew we could be hurt.

“On another day we could have probably closed that off to be 0-0 if it was a typical league game, but we had to have a push for the three points knowing the Oxford score at Exeter.”

He continued: “You have to remember the strength and depth we’ve struggled with too, due to injuries. We pushed to get to this moment and we had more than a fighting chance. The players should be very proud of themselves.”

Twitter users reacted after Portsmouth’s Paddy Lane produces a sh*thouse celebration after killing off Lincoln’s playoff hopes…

@ThomasTParker: I have a soft spot for Lincoln, so I’m probably clouded by bias, but that just feels so unnecessary to me. No needle between the clubs, Portsmouth’s job was already done, and he’s punching down on a smaller club who’ve just fallen short of a massive overachievement. Classless.

@timeforjamie: Fair enough. I don’t mind it. What this misses is the spontaneous minutes standing ovation from the Imps fans across the whole stadium at this moment – never seen anything like it. Been a great season, fallen just short 👏🏻
