Pontefract appoint an ex-Rotherham, Hartlepool, Swindon, Bristol Rovers and Grimsby player as manager, and the news has gone down well on social media.

The Northern Premier League Division One North West outfit have brought in the much loved Andy Monkhouse, who has played majority of his career at League One level.

In a club statement by Ponte Colls: “The club are delighted to announce that we have appointed Andy Monkhouse as our new Manager.

“The club is sending our thoughts and best wishes to everyone at this difficult time. As a football community we will meet and stand together again.

“After long deliberations and a vigorous application process, we can confirm that Andy Monkhouse has been appointed our first team manager.

“Andy joins the club following playing spells at local rivals Tadcaster Albion and Ossett United.

“Most of you will know Andy from his playing career where he featured in over 300 games in the football league. He lists Rotherham United, Swindon Town, Hartlepool United, Bristol Rovers, Grimsby Town, Alfreton Town, Whitby Town and the above mentioned Yorkshire clubs.

“Andy also holds an UEFA B License whilst working towards his UEFA A and has worked at Rotherham United as academy coach too.

“In the coming days and weeks we will announce Andy’s management team and we expect to have many more announcements to follow!”
