Police issue statement on Aston Villa fans having bus window smashed after Newcastle game

Police issue a statement on Aston Villa fans having their bus window smashed after the Newcastle game on Boxing Day.

Following the Premier League fixture, Northumbria Police have issued a statement regarding an incident where a bus window was reportedly smashed.

The incident happened shortly after the match, which Newcastle won 3-0 against a 10-man Aston Villa side with Jhon Duran dismissed for violent conduct after a clash with Fabian Schar.

Anthony Gordon scored 90 seconds into the first half, then Alexander Isak netted his 7th goal in 5 games on 59 minutes before Joelinton added a third in stoppage time.

Police reported criminal damage to a vehicle on Barrack Road in Newcastle, with a window being smashed by a thrown stone.

No injuries were reported in this incident, but the police are currently seeking witnesses and encouraging anyone with information or dashcam footage to come forward to assist with their investigation.

Reports confirm that one bus had its windows put out shortly while away supporters made their way up Barrack Road.

Photos have surfaced online and after doing the rounds, showing the a window of the bus shattered with a picture of a rock.

However, police are said to be looking into the incident, and who the culprit was, with social media users arguing over whether if it was a Newcastle fan, or thrown by a Aston Villa fan with a claim online saying they were refused entry back on to the bus.

Julian Bristow meanwhile says: “…My coaches, it was kids”

“It was Newcastle kids off the estate.”

“Which bit of my coaches and the police witnessed it does your 3brain cells not get.”

“I run the buses and was there. The police witnessed the incident and issued a crime number for the incident that was the kids from the estate. How stupid do you have to be. Facts/reality or you read something.”

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said, per Chronicle Live: “Shortly after 5pm yesterday (Thursday), we received a report of criminal damage to a vehicle which was on Barrack Road in Newcastle. It was reported that a window of the vehicle had been smashed after a stone was thrown at it.

“No-one is reported to have been injured in the incident. Witnesses or anyone with information should send us a direct message on social media, use the live chat function on our website or go to https://www.northumbria.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report/. For those unable to contact us via those ways, call 101. Please quote crime reference number 152180R/24.”

Twitter users gave their reaction as police issue statement on Aston Villa fans having their bus window smashed after the Newcastle game…

@JimmyWatt19: It’s disappointing if it’s was ‘Newcastle fan’. Just going off the photos looks like it was on Barrack Rd, where the buses normally are parked up. No CCTV? & did the police officers not see who did it?

@julie_shanks: One person. Best not to generalise. The vast majority of fans are not inclined to do something like that.

@lakesOllie: Please don’t tarnish us all by saying “Newcastle fans”. It was likely some little chav who definitely needs a good kicking for doing it. Absolute disgraceful behaviour and totally uncalled for.

@stephenindurham: As a #NUFC fan this is absolutely disgusting behaviour & unnecessary. But please don’t think that all fans are the same, We support our team for the love of the game of #football & the banter which violence & throwing stones isn’t part of

@gfnncl: It was some little charva off the estate probably they throw em at buses on a normal day man

@AndyMurton1: Disgrace from any fans

@johnCam71478014: Probably wasnt even a fan just a lil wronging thinking he’s clever… don’t tarnish all fans because of 1 mong… pleased no one was hurt and that the fans on that coach got home safe.

@RirieSteve: Not what we want to see at all, and not something that usually happens there, but also using the term “fans” is going too far, how many does it take to throw a single rock, we pride ourselves on opposing fans being welcomed in Toon, one idiot does not represent the majority 🤷‍♂️

@inkedgeordie96: Glad everyone was okay every fan bases have their idiots hope the journey back was alright

@jbmorg85: It will be the Chavs who hang around in the area. Nowt to do with football

@KingClueless9: Does not speak for us all fella, great match with great support on both sides. Sorry for a few nutters ruining a great match

@footballlover63: Low life scum. Hopefully someone has footage of the culprit!

@Sjohnston7Steve: Absolutely disgusting doing shit like that ! Hopefully CCTV catches them as that shouldn’t happen !!

@PaulLorraine72: It’s unacceptable but equally should not be seen as a reflection of Newcastle. Hopefully the idiots who did this are called out soon!

@jaylaws88: As a Newcastle fan this is shocking, and I apologise for the idiots. 95% of fans are great and treat everyone with respect.
