Police confirm arrests made and fans issue a varied range of complaints after trouble at Man City v Galatasaray.
A list of incidents took place inside the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night, with Galatasaray fans in home sections, objects thrown, altercations steward conduct and a pitch invasion protest.
Boos were heard around the stadium as the protestors were eventually contained by stewards. An eye-witness also told Manchester Evening News that he had witnessed ‘a few altercations’ in the City stand and ‘items being thrown’ from the away stand into the home stand.

Flares allowed for away fans but I can’t take a beer to my seat. A concerning amount of galatasary fans around me in the home end. Club is becoming a disgrace and a complete shambles. Shame @ManCity won’t sort it out though because all they care about is money and not true fans. https://t.co/RASDzIkUpk

Lots of TAU in South Stand concourse. You don’t even get that on derby day.
Although you’d be daft to go in the South Stand home end as an away fan.
I wonder why tonight eh lads? @ManCity pic.twitter.com/3JfIpqMaon

Greater Manchester Police confirmed that a total of seven arrests had been made, with three relating to pitch encroachment, three relating to public order offences and another relating to a missile thrown onto the pitch.
Chief Superintendent Colette Rose, GMP’s Gold commander for the game, said in a statement: “Big European football nights in Manchester are always an exciting occasion but can be dynamic and challenging.
“On Wednesday night we had significant resources out in the city to ensure thousands of supporters safely got to and from the game.
“We made seven arrests during the game: three were in relation to pitch encroachment, three were on suspicion of public order offences, and another was after a missile was thrown on the pitch.
“We know that there is always the risk of disruption for the wider public. We put weeks of planning into fixtures of this kind alongside partners from Manchester and beyond to ensure all people can go about the city safely and with minimal delay.
“I’m grateful to all officers, staff, and support agencies for their hard work through the day and into the night on this operation. I also thank the majority of fans and the wider public for their cooperation through the evening.”

Don’t bother reporting to the stewards as they will punch and strangle you and then kick you out the ground! Joke @ManCityHelp pic.twitter.com/rLL0rcfa5d

Did anyone witness my boyfriend getting assaulted by these stewards around 21:14? He was punched and strangled then dragged out by his neck by these 4 people. All because he asks why a Galatasaray fan hadn’t been kicked out of the home end! pic.twitter.com/dTuEpXUdxu— Bex Weir (@BexWeir5) January 28, 2026
During the game, protestors ran across the pitch and among the players before being grabbed by stewards. Loud boos were heard around the ground.
“Manchester City Galatasaray Match Solidarity Action with Rojava Took Place. Three people entered the pitch and unfurled the Kurdistan Flag. The match was paused for a while.”

@CKemp2111 tweeted: “Heard some horror stories about the state of the security at @ManCity last night – this is my cousin 😫 Hopefully this is rightfully investigated and these stewards get relieved of any ongoing duties 🙄 @ManCityHelp”

One in a forum said: “If anyone knows of anyone affected by them pricks throwing stuff especially in South level 3 tonight please pm me.
“My lad got a flare right between his eyes tonight causing a cut that needed Blueing and may need stitches if the glue doesn’t take, absolutely disgusted at the lack of police and stewards then their lack of reaction to what was a powder keg.
“If any one of us behaved like them animals did tonight on a Euro away we’d be in a cell right now getting the shit kicked out of us.
“Also if anyone knows the next contact at the club to deal with this shite please let me know before I ring them first thing.”

@BexWeir5: 1 – We usually sit elsewhere in the ground but due to the game we move to 93:20. We was told this was city only! Gala fans was chanting before the games even started which we reported. They continued though out the game so he went and spoke to a different steward who said
@BexWeir5: 2 – They was on with it. As he walked back to the seat they collered him and started saying he was being aggressive ect which he wasn’t. After a bit of back and forward they did the above. They dragged him by his neck from 93:20 though joes bar and down the W stairs
@BexWeir5: 3 – Regardless of if he sworn at them or anything that level or force is not acceptable! We go home and away and have never been in any kind of trouble as that’s not who we are!
@mcfc_luke___: I know the stewards were limited to what they could do unless the gala lot were wearing colours etc but that doesn’t excuse this sort of retaliation, make sure you get onto city about it
@BexWeir5: They was changing before the game even kicked off and we reported it then and continued though out the whole game! In the clubs hands now
@mcfc_luke___: Yeah nasty work, i had one behind me who had a city hat but was joining in their chants and talking turkish to his mate who was in the away end but the stewards couldn’t get rid cause he wasn’t showing colours

@darren196969: Agree, rude cunts as soon as you queue up outside, it’s another part of going I’m starting to hate. It’s like visiting a prison just to get inside and c*nts like these won’t need much of an excuse to kick shit out of someone. Club should be ashamed.”
@LedwardAndy: It really is disgraceful, no attempt, at stopping opposition fans coming in and when it goes off , it will be the city fans banned
@mcfcstu27: Club and the way its run and treating match going home fans is an absolute joke. Been going since the 80’s but never have i felt more like jacking it in than I do now. Just don’t want to give them the privilege of giving back my season ticket.
@sheelagh58: Sort it out City. Not good enough 😡
@Griffin3Robert: did you ask how he obtained his ticket? sales criteria was made very strict, so as to prevent this 🤷♂️
@liaml11l: 🤣🤣🤣 no fucks given as well ffs
@kippax2710: He ain’t smiling now though 😂
@MOBeMatt: @ManCity – how’s that crime number when my mate in 007 got punched against leverkusen? Still done fuck all about that one? Yet another away fan in the home end when the away end clearly could’ve fit him in. Yet the same stewards can’t stop a pitch invader?
@BillysBoots100: It’s getting beyond a joke. The way City fans are treated is a disgrace
@bluenobby: Not a great look @ManCity @ManCityHelp…
@pounewatchy: Doesn’t surprise me. I witnessed someone being denied admittance at Entrance B as he openly had a Gala shirt on under his jacket. Naturally I thought that would be his night done, but 20 mins later he was sat 6 rows in front of me in 038 🤷♂️
@andyymcfc: So many Galatasaray fans among the home, ridiculous. Not to mention how they brought flares but I’ve got to take off my hat and unzip my jackets
@janectid66: @ManCity well done: WE get searched, female fans told to take hats & coats off at home section turnstiles we’ve been coming to for 20 odd years. but Galatasaray fans get flares & fireworks in which they’re now throwing at city fans. 👏🏻
@djwskyblu: Galatasaray fans all over the fckin place tonight – ridiculous ticketing by City – but that said, shit attendance. City need to sort out ticket prices and start taking season ticket orders for when the North Stand expansion comes in. The half & half tossers won’t be filling it 🤬
@harsh07022009: @ManCity For God’s sake prioritize us the fans over money. What’s the point of expanding the stadium if we are not filling the current capacity. Give more season tickets and make them easily transferable.
@TomCitySS3: Thing is, the stewards didn’t even remove the flair. Walked past it at full time
@JulieMCFC: This is getting a joke now. The same thing happened to my son 2 seasons ago & we went through hell with the club. Had to go to court costing nearly 5 grand to get it sorted out. Get the cctv before they say it’s lost.
@simon_hand: @ManCityHelp I have to say how extremely disappointing it is to see the competence of your turnstile security team. While I can understand the away supporters in home end as some of them probably come every game. But the number of pyrotechnics going off was ridiculous bare in mind I was once stop for bringing chips in that was bought by the turnstile as they was hot! and only cold food was allowed in because hot food is dangerous!!!!!!
@NOELY1982: Every week for the last 2 seasons you see incident after incident with the same stewarding. The ones at entrance J are the rudest try hard big men ever. The main steward shouting ‘do as we say if not fuck off’. When as a club are you gonna get a grip on this @ManCityHelp
@MCFC_Rog: Hi @ManCityHelp Quite frankly we’re all getting tired of the poor stewarding and policing at games especially this season. Double standards is put very lightly. Whilst away fans get away with pretty much everything, you treat us home fans like absolute dog crap.
@Leroy45914372: Flares, smoking, throwing fireworks, drinks, coins & more 🤦♂️ City fan after getting hit on the head nudge a police officer (the same one that stood there just watching the above)police officer grabs him violently only for city fans to stick up for fellow blue so he let go @ManCity 😡
@SSBradMCFC_: Getting out of control these power hungry stewards. Particularly in South Stand wouldn’t mind but a few years ago they were all sound & the club replaced them all with these dickheads.
@not_colino: I’ve complained about steward behaviour in the past and it went absolutely nowhere. @ManCityHelp are making it more and more obvious that us local supporters are no longer welcome.
