Social media users gave their reaction on the game…
Not sure why people expected England to suddenly be the technical equal of Spain just because they reached a World Cup semi. Also, not this team’s fault that the system has failed to produce a No 10 or a top deep midfielder.

FT 1-2 #spa Something of a reality check for England. Not quite good enough at either end of the pitch tonight & lacking a midfield presence to control the game/create from deep in the mould of Thiago (or Luka Modric, for that matter). Southgate furious with late disallowed goal.

England summary : We don’t look comfortable trying to play out from the back / losing it in dangerous areas. We still have no creative midfielder. Southgate subs are predictable. Alli is the most overrated English player we have and why is welbeck even in this squad. #ENGSPA

The last time England lost 3 consecutive competitive games was……complete guess: 1988 Euros? It’s coming home.

There was plenty of debate on whether Welbeck’s goal should have stood…
Ridiculous he dropped it on his head. If that’s a foul we might as well give up and go home
— calkane (@calkane) September 8, 2018
Seen some shite in my time but disallowing that goal takes the biscuit. It’s about time the officials had to give an interview after the game like the managers and (some) players do.

Disgusting refereeing against England once again. De Gea catches the ball and falls onto Welbeck who is standing still…plays the injured card and a goal is disallowed. Stones gets booked for the best tackle of the game?? Who’s paying this ref? #ENGvSPA #Welbeck #CheatingCunts

Am I alone in thinking Welbeck’s nudged the defender and jumped into the keeper without trying to play the ball? Soft like but can see why a foul was given even if it’s not clear cut.

Social media users also reacted to the unfortunate injury Luke Shaw received…
Ffs Luke shaw! Poor bastard can’t catch a break. Really hope he’s alright pic.twitter.com/Dw66RLKpNG

Luke Shaw is one of the unluckiest footballers in recent memory. This injury is such a shame and one can only hope he can recover quickly and regain his form. He was having such a great season, he can’t catch a break. Awful.

Poor Luke Shaw, injured again. How cruel is that? Carvajal accidentally catches Shaw, all players’ concern immediate. After lengthy medical attention, Shaw placed on stretcher, receiving oxygen, fans/players applaud sympathetically as he’s carried away. Such wretched luck #ENGESP
