Phil Foden’s embarrassing old social media post resurfaces

Phil Foden’s embarrassing old social media post resurfaces from way back in the day, and it’s well and truly left fans in hysterics.

The 20 year old is having a season to remember right now, helping his side run away with the top tier of English football after a bumpy start.

City currently sit top of the Premier League table, with 59 points from 25 games played so far, and 10 points ahead of second place rivals Manchester United with third place Leicester City on the same points as the Red Devils.

Midfielder Phil Foden has been given a chance by manager Pep Guardiola, and has since repaid him with 11 goals in 31 appearances, his best record for any of his previous seasons of his career.

It earned him a selection in the England national team, making his debut for the Three Lions in September 2020 against Iceland, before then getting axed along with Mason Greenwood by Gareth Southgate due to breaking the team’s19 isolation protocols by bringing at least one guest, a female, to their team hotel in Iceland.

Foden scored his first and second goals for England during a second UEFA Nations League match against Iceland at Wembley Stadium on the 18th of November 2020.

He would have been embarrassed for his part in the Iceland incident, and that may be how he was also feeling if he’s come across the posts doing the rounds of social media right now.

It shows a picture of a very young looking Phil Foden, a selfie of himself back to his school days, though looks to be on the bus, with a pout on his face and some flicked up styled hair.

His post also had a cringey teen like caption: “Felt cute might delete x”

It’s not the first old throwback photo to go viral on social media, with Foden himself posting one in homage to the days he was a ballboy at Man City.

The Stockport-born talent uploaded a photo of him at City, whom he’s been with since he was nine years old, coming through the academy system at Eastland.

He added a second photo alongside his ballboy days, this picture was of him as a first team player for the club as you can see below, with the caption reading ‘How it started How it’s going’.

Father of one Foden is proud to reflect on his rise within football, and that’s exactly what he’s done in association with EA Sport’s FIFA game.

He has been promoting it and himself as well as showing memories and photos of his time at junior and youth level.

Proper class to see, have a watch of the brief video below, we’ll no doubt see more of him to come, I feel a documentary coming on soon.

Whilst also displaying him in his football playing days, he also got the chance as a very small kid to walkout with the players.

City have shared footage of a seven-year-old Foden holding the hand of Martin Petrov when he was mascot for the Sky Blues’ 1-0 win over Sunderland way back in November 2007.

Years before he got slits in his eye-brows and was nicknamed ‘the Stockport Iniesta’, baby faced Foden was wearing his full Manchester City home strip and had a beaming smile on his face as he walked onto the playing surface.

Foden, whose mum who is also a City fan but has a Man Utd supporting dad and brother, had fond memories of the experience – but did reveal he actually wanted to walk out with Micah Richards initially.

“I did want to walk out with Micah Richards, I ended up changing to Petrov,” he told Sky Sports.

“I got to take a few shots at Joe Hart as well & then I was in the same changing room as him.”

He also had the perfect view in the stands watching Sergio Aguero scoring THAT goal against QPR.

“I was right behind the goal and saw it go in the net – I’ll never forget it,” Foden told BBC.

“I remember the whistle went and everyone legged it on to the pitch! Me and my mum decided to go on as well.

“I remember seeing Aguero getting swarmed and security guards around him trying to get him to the tunnel. It was just full of people; you couldn’t move.

“It was massive. I knew how big it was. I could tell by the reaction around me how big it was.

“I don’t think it will ever be done like that again; it was a special memory.”

On his view for the future, Foden said: “I can only see myself playing for Manchester City, considering how much I’ve supported them from a young age.

“It always helps when you play for a club you support.

“When I was younger, it was a dream to play for the club, so never did I think I would make it to 100 appearances so early.

“I gave the shirt from that [West Brom] game to my family and they got it framed.

“I wouldn’t say I’m doing anything different this season, just playing more of an attacking role,” he said.

“In previous years, I’ve played in the middle. Now I’m out wide and you always get confidence when you score in back-to-back games.

“Sometimes you get lucky when chances fall to you. I just enjoy scoring goals and that’s what I wanted to add to my game.”
