A Peterborough United fan has been arrested mid-game after being caught in a video SPITTING at celebrating Ipswich Town players.
The incident took place during Peterborough’s League One match against Ipswich. Both teams were desperate to win the game, the hosts wanting to keep their playoff hopes alive while the visitors have automatic promotion in their sights.
Wes Burns scored the first goal for Ipswich after 17 minutes, cupping his hands in celebration, with the players heading toward Peterborough fans.
A man was captured on camera getting out of his seat and appeared to lean in and spit on Burns, before swearing in front of stunned kids and parents watching on.
As the game played out, Peterborough took to Twitter to say that the police had arrested the fan in question.
A statement read: “The football club can confirm that a gentleman was arrested by police following an incident after the first goal scored by Ipswich Town this afternoon.
“There is no place in the game for incidents like this. The club would like to thank the police for swiftly dealing with it.”

Ipswich continued their march to the Championship by knocking Peterborough out of the play-off positions with a 3-0 win.
Kieran Mckenna’s team extended their unbeaten League One streak to 16 games by putting on a dominant performance from the start, staying second in the table.
Wes Burns was the first to react and tuck in the rebound after Will Norris blocked Nathan Broadhead’s shot.
After the goal, a fan was quickly arrested for spitting at Ipswich’s players as they celebrated.
Posh’s first signs of life came when Ephron Mason-Clark’s shot from close range tested Christian Walton’s reaction. They threatened again in the second half, when League One’s top scorer Jonson Clarke Harris’ fierce shot was blocked.
Conor Chaplin, the second-most prolific player in this league, doubled Ipswich’s lead with his 23rd League One Goal of the season. He finished with his left hand after Broadhead had run and passed him.
In the 82nd minute, substitute Freddie Ladapo scored the third Ipswich strike by controlling his chest and volleying the ball into the corner.
Kieran McKenna said his side’s performance against Peterborough had ‘a bit of everything’.
“It was a day for the supporters to enjoy and hopefully they did,” he told iFollow Ipswich.
“They were here in great numbers and the support was fantastic. I’d imagine it was one of their most enjoyable games of the season, but for us, at this stage of the season, it’s just another three points.
“The performance had a bit of everything, though. We came out on the front foot with real intent and took the game right to them.
“We dominated the early parts and got the goal, and then had to show different sides to our game. A times we did well with the ball and kept possession, and at times we defended high, pressed well, and won the ball back.
“There was spirit and it was a complete performance. The impact of the subs was brilliant as well.
“We can’t get too high because we need to be ready to go again on Tuesday, but it was a job very well done.”
