Pep Guardiola punishes Jack Grealish and Phil Foden after nightclub visit

Pep Guardiola punishes Jack Grealish and Phil Foden following their visit to a nightclub after Man City’s 7-0 win against Leeds.

The pair were dropped out of the starting lineup for City’s Premier League game against Newcastle at the weekend and didn’t come off the bench during the 4-0 victory.

The Times report that Man City were unhappy at the condition of the players when they returned for a recovery session the following day.

A picture was posted on social media of Foden and Grealish

Guardiola said on Sunday: “It was not rotation. I decided on this team because they deserved to play today, these guys and not the other ones.

“At Christmas time I pay a lot of attention to behaviour on and off the pitch. And when off the pitch is not proper, they are not going to play.

“So we have to be focused all the time because of distractions at Christmas time and everything that happens – you have to still be focused.”

Grealish scored in the thrashing of Leeds last week, his third for Man City following his £100million transfer from Aston Villa.

21 year old Foden, has six goals and six assists so far this term and has been a key player on the pitch for the Etihad outfit.

City’s next game is a Boxing Day clash against Leicester at home before a trip to Brentford on the 29th of December.

It isn’t the first time Foden and Grealish have hit the headlines for their behavior.

In 2015, Grealish was caught on video inhaling nitrous oxide and was also once spotted passed out in the street on holiday in Tenerife with photos going viral.

Last year, he allegedly partied with former teammate Ross McCormack during the height of the pandemic and then crashed his car, something he gets mocked for regularly

Foden was sent home from England duty, along with Mason Greenwood, in September 2020 after the pair snuck two women into their Iceland hotel room. Greenwood has struggled to get back into the senior national team since.

Fans reacted as Pep Guardiola punishes Jack Grealish and Phil Foden after their nightclub visit…

@JDGrphcs : He’s ruthless. And that’s why he’s the best. Granted we have the luxury of such a talented and big squad, but he is the master of pushing players to be better. Learn from mistakes otherwise you lose your chance to play football. Firm, but so smart and effective.

@mcfc_david27 : And thats why Pep is the GOAT, this is how u teach a lesson to players and this is how u get the best out of them

@DeuceSkywalker : Grealish has been a wasted signing. Didn’t need him in the 1st place, hasn’t added any tangible value so far, now this.

@RobSteele96 : Grealish in an off the field incident? Well I never……

@VillaLamp : Shock

@OddsOnFPL: Grealish is a bad influence on Foden.

@_ScottWilkins0n: Fairly sure foden shagged an Icelandic lass whilst he had a bird away from grealish’s influence to be fair

@UTD_Ben18: imagine this was rashford and sancho..

@AVFC_Aston: Hope grealish didn’t drive home 😳

@WalterWoodBush: Very few coaches have the squad that allows them to be “ruthless” like this.

@TheGismyName: Since we signed Grealish we have bottled two titles and now we have behavioral issues in the team…

@alexquintani11a: Not only that but players are testing positive for COVID and they think it’s cool to go out and risk it

@nwanneka_omeche: I like the way Pep Guardiola makes these guys understand that they need to take things seriously. Any slip up this season is detrimental to our lifting the title again and Foden most especially should know this better than Grealish.

@MoSakoooo: Grealish is a bad influence.. we’re still recovering from he who shall not be named

@toughferret: Compare that to United… Maguire gets sent off, throws the captains armband on the floor, lose 4-1 to Watford, goes on a bender that night…..straight back into the team next available match.

@RyanMKIV: Jack Grealish will be back at Aston Villa or at a club like Everton or Leicester for £30m in a year or so.

@MCFC_Liban: Said I was gonna back him but why tf is he doing this shit man

@stephenjfitz: Great management. Setting the standard.

@scottsa55144719: I’m starting to think did grealish go for the trophies or did he go for the celeb status/lifestyle ? Come on jack sort it out don’t waste ya talent

@KDBesque: Considering Grealish stats this season, he should shift his focus to different kind of shots

@KDBased: jack always wearing the same shit every photo

@Erling_Era: The lads are just enjoying themselves

@majestic_foden: When everyone is gettin covid? We cant afford to lose players of such caliber durin such a period of fixtures. Its reckless behavior.
