Pep Guardiola makes plea to Man City fans after they were trolled for their goal celebrations

Pep Guardiola makes a plea to Man City fans after they were trolled for their goal celebrations in their win against Sheffield United.

Manchester City’s quest for the treble was maintained thanks to Riyad Maharez scoring the first FA Cup semi final hat-trick since 1958.

The Blades fought hard and missed an early opportunity when Stefan Ortega saved Iliman Ndiaye’s shot. But once Mahrez netted his first goal from the penalty spot, City showed their class.

After Daniel Jebbison fouled Bernardo Silva, the Algerian made it 1-0, then took advantage of an open Sheffield United defence to score the second solo effort shortly after the hour mark.

Mahrez scored a third goal – the first time in a semi final in this competition that a player has achieved such a feat since Alex Dawson did it for Manchester United in 1958 – by sweeping Jack Grealish’s cross past Wes Foderingham at the end of the 66 minute period.

The City manager Pep Guardiola was able to take off key players such as Erling Haaland, Grealish and Bernardo Silva in preparation for the upcoming meeting between current Premier League leaders Arsenal on Wednesday at the Etihad.

Guardiola and City have enjoyed a successful week, after reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League and establishing a FA Cup final against Manchester United. They also saw their main rivals Arsenal dropped points in the league.

But is winning becoming boring for City? You’d think their fans would be buzzing, ecstatic and excited, but judging by a video of their celebrations in the stands at Wembley, it’s anything but that…

And compare that to Man Utd, who beat Brighton on penalties the day after…

Pep Guardiola has called on fans to paint Manchester blue and crank up the noise for a potential title decider this week.

The City manager said, as per The Comet: “It’s really important, the final we have on Wednesday – and it is a final – against a team who have been the best team in England so far. They are five points ahead of us.

“Hopefully all Manchester that day will be blue and they can come to support us. We need incredible noise from the first minute to the last as I know which opponent we are going to play against.

“Even though they’ve drawn the last three games, the way they play is difficult to stop. You have to read exactly what you have to do.

“It’s a massively important game for us. If we win it’s a step to getting it completely in our hands.

“We have this opportunity and we want to take it. Hopefully the whole of the Etihad will be full three hours before.”

City have beaten Arsenal twice this season, in the Premier League and FA Cup, while the London side have also faltered, with draws against Liverpool, West Ham and Southampton in their last three games.

Guardiola, however, is not reading too much into their current form.

He said: “I would say that they went to Anfield and got a result – that’s not easy. You can drop points there as we know.

“And when you play teams fighting to survive it’s difficult for everyone. It can happen to us. The momentum can go and we can lose.

“I know how difficult it will be. They are huge competitors from the manager to the players and if they sustain that, we will have to be there.”
