People of Newcastle mimic gone viral Dan Burn goal celebration dance after win against Leicester

The people of Newcastle have took to mimic the gone viral Dan Burn goal celebration dance after the win against Leicester on Tuesday.

The 6ft 6ins boyhood Magpies supporter netted his first goal for the club (since his 13m move from Brighton 12 months ago) in the 2-0 Carabao Cup victory at a packed out St. James’ Park.

Manager Eddie Howe revealed it’s not exactly what he asked from the defender, but enjoyed the dance which was televised by Sky Sports: “I was actually asking him to speak and he stood up and danced.

“But when someone as popular as him has a moment like that I think it’s important we all share it with him.

“He moves quite well for a big man, doesn’t he?!”

Burn, who spent time in the club’s academy as a boy, but was released aged 11, joked to Sky Sports: “Last time I did a dance like that, I didn’t score for two years. So I hope it is not going to be the same again.”

Presenter Mark Chapman asked the 30-year-old if he fancied giving viewers another glimpse of his dance moves.

“Absolutely not,” he responded, with a look of ‘oh b****** what have done?’ on his face. “To be honest I’m actually gutted I’ve done it but I don’t care.”

It’s a signature move for Burn to dance after scoring, it was four years ago he flossed when finding the net for Wigan in a match vs Fleetwood.

Warren Barton enjoyed his dance moves as he joined talkSPORT Breakfast on Wednesday.

He said: “He’s like a baby giraffe, isn’t he? He’s trying to find his feet. What a goal, I jumped off the sofa when it went in.

“I know how much it means to him especially, going back to his club, I’m sure he had family in the stadium at that end.”

“I used to sit in the east stand you always want to score in front of the Gallowgate end, to do that in front of my family was amazing,” Burn added to Sky Sports.

“I like to get forward and it’s entertaining watching a guy my size running into the box. It was excitement before the game. The gaffer made a big thing of going for a trophy this season, in previous years staying in the league was enough, but this year we want a cup. The fans deserve it and we want to deliver.”

Dan Burn sent Newcastle on their way to the semis with his first goal for the club; Joelinton doubled the advantage before Jamie Vardy inexplicably missed from close range.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe said of Newcastle’s barren trophy run: “It’s been too long, too long a wait. That’s no criticism of anyone that’s tried, but we’re desperate to hurry up the processes and try to get the team successful as quickly as possible.

“That’s easier said than done, and we now go to a semi-final. Getting to the semi-final is one thing, but you want to get into the final, you want to experience that.

“We know we’ll have a huge test ahead of us whoever we get, but we’re just delighted to be in there.”

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe speaking to Sky Sports:

“It was a similar feel to the Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday games. We had chance after chance and couldn’t take them. The important thing is not to get impatient and not to overthink things and be too extravagant. I thought we controlled things really well. The goals came at a good time. You are always looking for things to improve.

“Leicester are a transition threat, especially when Vardy comes on. The defenders concentration was very good. At 0-0, we limited them.

“The hallmark of our team is that they don’t stop. The athletic capability of our team is very high. Allied to that is the mentality, to understand the need to work and run and our players understand that. To the end we were trying to push.

“You have to enjoy winning. It doesn’t happen all the time. You work hard for the moments in the changing room and you want the players to savour it.”

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers speaking to Sky Sports:

“Firstly, congratulations to Newcastle for getting through to the semi-final. I think they deserved to win the game. We lacked quality. We gave the ball away too easily and needed too many touches. We don’t have any arguments. Two soft goals too. We can be better in those areas. But Newcastle were better.

“We had chances. In the first-half we got into good areas. In the second-half we had good opportunities. If Jamie [Vardy] makes it 2-1 in the last 15 minutes of the game it makes it more nervous. We couldn’t quite get the goal to make them feel the pressure.”
