Penalty shootout decides thrilling National League Playoff Final between Bromley and Solihull

A penalty shootout decides what played out to be a thrilling National League Playoff Final between Bromley and Solihull at Wembley.

Bromley finished 3rd in the table, meaning they would play the playoff semi final and not the quarter final, while Solihull finished 5th, so had to play a quarter final, and boy have they impressed.

Bromley earned their spot in the final following a thrilling 3-1 victory over Altrincham on Sunday (28th April), while Solihull have beaten Halifax 4-2, and came away with a 4-0 victory at Barnet to progress through.

It was Bromley who got the opener on 41 minutes, Corey Whitely slotting the ball through the defence and Michael Cheek snatched the ball off defender Alex Whitmore in the area and coolly put it past Nick Hayes.

Although Moors players appealed for a foul with Whitmore furious at being nudged off the ball facing his own goal.

Then shortly into the second half, Tahvon Campbell had his shot initially saved by Grant Smith but the ball fell to Sbarra, who made no mistake and netted the equaliser.

Bromley were back in front on 57 minutes, Michael Cheek nipping in to beat keeper Nick Hayes to the ball only to be brought down as Hayes attempted to clear his lines.

And moments later, Solihull were back level again, with skipper Jamey Osborne making his forward from halfway and then hit a low shot from 20 yards which went through the legs of some defenders and beat Grant Smith low to his right.

With 90 minutes up, the game needed another 30 minutes to find out who will be playing in the EFL next season.

Bromley went close with Alex Kirk winning the ball on the right and went towards the box before sending a one across Nick Hayes which struck the inside of the post and bounced back across goal and away.

Then Solihull came close to getting a winner, Tahvon Campbell won a Moors free-kick 35 yards out, the ball could only be half-cleared by Bromley and after Joss Labadie pulled the ball back from the right, Alex Whitmore put it past the far post.

Penalties were needed to sort this one.
