Paul Gascoigne left visibly emotional after scoring in legends match

Paul Gascoigne was left visibly emotional after scoring in a Rangers legends match in front of a packed of Ibrox Stadium at the weekend.

Gazza scored for the Scottish Premiership giants in a heartwarming moment during the ‘Match of Legends’ against Luis Figo’s World XI.

The game was staged to celebrate the Glasgow club’s 150th anniversary with Rangers losing 3-2.

Gascoigne enjoyed the celebrations after his goal

Alex McLeish was the man the dugout as Rangers’ boss with Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Jorg Albertz, Barry Ferguson and Ronald De Boer all named in the squad alongside Gazza.

The World XI team was captained by Luis Figo, and his side featured the likes of Kaka, Claude Makelele, Eric Abidal, Gheorge Hagi and Robert Pires.

Rangers broke the deadlock on 39 minutes thanks to an emphatic header from Shota Arveladze.

Carlos Marchena levelled the scoreline early in the second half, heading home on the end of a beautiful ball from Kaka.

Nuno Gomes put the World XI back in front before Ricardo Quaresma added a third with a beautiful strike.

Quaresma rolled back the years to make it 3-1 with the outside of his boot and then came the moment Gazza found the net.

The ball was rolled across the box to the ex-England international, who totally mis-hit his strike and put his hands on his head.

One of the World XI defenders thought they’d show a more generous side, playing the ball back to him.

Gascoigne scuffed a second shot, the ball slowly went over the line as the World XI keeper dramatically dived.

The celebrations were described to be heartwarming as the entire stadium got off their seats and applauded the Rangers legend, while he also performed his controversial flute celebration that landed him in trouble in 1998.

He did this celebration against Celtic, though unaware of the sectarian connotations, and was subsequently fined £20,000 by Rangers.
