Christian Eriksen hit by coin during interview after goal with first touch on Denmark return

Shocked viewers saw Christian Eriksen hit by a coin during his interview after getting goal with his first touch on his Denmark return.

The playmaker was back on the international stage after suffering a cardiac arrest in the summer during Euro 2020 last summer.

He has returned back to his best when he continued his career with Brentford having left Inter Milan and is back representing his country.

So on Saturday night, Eriksen found himself in familiar surroundings when he linked up again with his Danish teammates as they took on the Netherlands at the Johan Cruyff Arena.

They lost 4-2, although the 30-year-old scored within minutes of his return and that ultimately stole the headlines and left a feel good feeling for those watching on.

However in his post-match interview, Eriksen was somewhat targeted by a thug with a coin. Whilst speaking, the Bees star looked down after the object appeared to hit him on the arm.

He said on his return to Amsterdam: “It has always been lovely place and today is an even more special place for me to play my first international game in this stadium.”

On his goal he added: “I was happy the ball came to me. I thought it was a lovely finish and to start my international comeback like this is a perfect way.”

It was Eriksen’s 110th cap after coming on as a second-half substitute and could have even grabbed a brace but another of his chances came straight back off the post.

Eriksen received a standing ovation from both sets of fans with Dutch boss Louis van Gaal also showing respect.

The ex-Spurs man has been fitted with a defibrillator and he could only show the relief he had at playing for his national team again. He said: “If you take away the result, I’m one happy man. To go through what I’ve been through, being back is a wonderful feeling.”

Denmark have already sealed a place for the World Cup in Qatar later this winner having topped a group that included Scotland.

They reached the last four at Euro 2020, losing to England in extra-time.

Eriksen hopes to be included in the final squad for the tournament, saying: “I am looking forward to playing in Qatar but there is a lot of games in between.”

Eriksen went onto his social media after the game and said: “Can’t say how much I’ve missed this feeling.”
