Sheffield United fans have chosen to hit out at a breaking club statement which was published on the Blades’ official website on Thursday.
The South Yorkshire outfit have confirmed that Alan Knill has left Bramall Lane with some speculating he might be off with another club in mind.
56 year old Knill has been acting as the club’s assistant manager since way back in 2016, working closely alongside Chris Wilder as the they stormed from League One into the Premier League across just three seasons. Impressive.
And Wilder and his staff then guided them to a top-10 finish in the Premier League, before departing the relegation-bound Blades back in March.
Knill has been with them for the whole journey, however the club have now announced that they have completed the necessary paperwork in the last 24 hours to release him as they move into a new era under Slavisa Jokanovic.
Just it’s the way that they chose to say goodbye to him that’s riled up their fanbase, it’s it’s completely understandable considering how he’s helped them.
United can confirm that Alan Knill has left the club, by mutual consent.
The paperwork has been completed in the last 24 hours to enable him to leave with immediate effect. The board would like to thank Alan for his hard work and wish him well for the future.#SUFC 🔴

The club statement simply read: “United can confirm that Alan Knill has left the club, by mutual consent.
“Assistant manager since 2016, the paperwork has been completed in the last 24 hours to enable him to leave Bramall Lane with immediate effect.
“The board would like to thank Alan for his hard work and wish him well for the future.”
As mentioned, Sheffield United fans hit out at the breaking club statement while others had something else to say, check it out below…
@OllieStubbins: Queue Wilder getting announced somewhere as Manager very soon. Shame he hasn’t stayed around, seemed a great character all round, hopefully can return in some format in the future, thanks Alan ⚔️
@MartinCBeaumont: I’d expect the opposite tbh. If Wilder was heading into a new job we would have kept hold and got the compensation instead. Unless he’s in the frame for Swansea which I can’t see with Cooper leaving due to lack of funds and ambition.
@NickChatts: A parting message at least 👍🏻
@riiiccchhhh: He stuck around when things got tough 👍
@JackWalters92: Thanks for everything Alan. Incredible coach and an under rated part of our successes last few years. Always welcome back.
@EdLambert20: Such a pathetic statement again, showing little gratitude for a man who did so much for the club. I get it’s time to move on but could show a bit more respect
@KopFinest: Cheers for all your masterpieces, an assistant popular amongst fans is a rarity. Good luck Knilly! ⚔️
@MattBralsford: Thanks for everything Knilly, the streets of S2 will remember the overlapping centre backs for decades to come ⚔️
@warpedpolecat: Some great memories of Chris and Alan. Some of the best memories I’ve had following United tbh. Wish him nowt but the best
@M_Eggy1: Thanks for everything Knilly. Will always be a legend.
@Furbs33: Thanks Knilly, some of the freekicks we scored with will live long in the memory amongst all the promotions and being an all round top bloke.
@jones1302: Thanks for everything Alan. As said elsewhere, popular and praised without exception. 👍

@juancl78: Can’t remember seeing this when CW left.
@gullychef: Top man 👏🏼 instrumental in our recent success
@JackWalters92: Fantastic coach and was so under rated for all of our successes last few years. Any club would be lucky to have him.
@floodywalker: Best of luck Knilly 👍 I’m sure you and Sir Chris will bring joy to the next club you’re both in charge of as you did so magically for Dem Blades ❤️ #Twitterblades
@bladespod: I’ve definitely been guilty of talking about “Wilder’s United”, “the Chris Wilder years”, etc – which is an injustice considering how important this man was to those amazing years. Sorry to see him leave and nothing but gratitude for his time here.
@skibumg: Chrissy Wilder & Alan Knill!! 🎶🎶🎵
@dembladeslad: gutted he’s gone, even more so with that statement, deserved to have so much more written in that
@ItsLeeBarber: Absolutely crucial to our success over the last 4 years. Statue incoming.
@DemBladesDavid: Fantastic servant to United, who introduced the tactical revolution that has turned us into a stable club to be proud of again. Thanks, Knilly! #sufc #twitterblades
@carlscarlsberg: Goodbye, thanks for everything, shame the club don’t seem too arse for all he’s done judging by that write up
