Paddy Madden reveals what made him sign for Chesterfield after leaving promoted Stockport

Paddy Madden reveals what made him sign for EFL returnees Chesterfield after leaving promoted League Two club Stockport County.

The 34-year-old player, who served as the captain for the League Two champions, departs from the club and became a free agent.

Throughout his time at the club, the forward has showcased his skills by scoring 65 goals in 157 matches, playing a pivotal role in securing two titles within a span of three years, propelling the team from the National League to League One.

CLUB STATEMENT:

An agreement has been reached with Paddy Madden for the forward to join the Spireites on a two-year deal following the expiry of his contract at Stockport County.

The 34-year-old has made over 650 career appearances to date and lifted the League Two title in the season just finished, scoring 22 goals during the campaign.

Madden has played for a number of clubs including Fleetwood Town, Scunthorpe United and Carlisle United.

After agreeing a deal which is subject to approval from the relevant authorities, Madden said: โ€œIโ€™m buzzing to get the deal done. Itโ€™s a massive club that Iโ€™ve always enjoyed playing against. The supporters have always followed the club fantastically.

โ€œAs soon as Paul [Cook] rang me, I knew I wanted to come and play for him and the club. Heโ€™s always been a brilliant manager.

โ€œObviously I won League Two with Stockport last season but who knows, whatโ€™s to say we canโ€™t do it again.

โ€œFootball is about winning and I want to win football games, thatโ€™s what this club and manager do.

โ€œIโ€™m so excited to be here and I canโ€™t wait to get going.โ€

Kane Drummond became the first signing of the summer last week after agreeing to join the Spireites upon the expiry of his contract at Macclesfield.

@SpireTweet: Madden signs. He had interest from other clubs, including Blackpool as well as a deal offered by Stockport. The 2 year deal no doubt helped swing it. Another good attacking option next season. Despite being at the latter end of his career, still scoring goals year on year.
