Omer Riza’s awkward post-match interview after Cardiff’s defeat to Sheffield United goes viral

Omer Riza’s post-match interview after Cardiff’s defeat to Sheffield United goes viral, making it for quite the awkward watch.

The Bluebirds boss said he must accept criticism from the stands after some of those in the away end called for him to go as his side fell to defeat at Bramall Lane.

While in part it was a battling performance against the promotion-chasing Blades, they watched Gustavo Hamer and Ben Brereton Diaz take all the points.

The 2-0 defeat means they sit second from bottom in the Championship – but just one point from safety – with three games left this season.

Interviewer: Can you do differently on Monday to get a better result, you think?

Omer Riza: Score goals and not concede.

Interviewer: Is it as simple as that?

Omer Riza: It was football, isn’t it? Gotta score more than the opposition.

Interviewer: And how do you go about doing that?

Omer Riza: You you tell me how I go about doing it. You tell me how I go about doing it.

Interviewer: I’m not the manager of Cardiff City, am I?

Omer Riza: You’re asking me a question. I’ve already explained to you how we’ve approached…

Cardiff fans sang “we want Riza out” and “you’re getting sacked in the morning”.

When asked about it, Riza said, per BBC Sport: “It’s tough, it’s disappointing.

“I have to keep doing my job. I am the manager of the club and I have to remain focused to make sure my players are ready for the game on Monday [against Oxford United].

“I have to take what they want to sing and what they want to say on the chin and move forwards.”

He said sorry before before the game after he described some Cardiff supporters as “clueless” during his pre-match press conference. See more on that HERE.

On only one win in their past nine games – Riza said: “I don’t think it was towards the players. I thought the fans were behind the players today it was more towards me.”

Amid talk of Cardiff potentially change their manager for the second time this season – and rumours of a return for former boss Neil Warnock – Riza said he still believes he is that man to save the club from relegation to the third tier.

“If I didn’t think I was the right man for the job, I wouldn’t be standing here,” he added.

“It’s still only one point. Luton beat Derby which keeps us all close. If we approach the Oxford game the way we tried to approach this game, we feel we can get something out of it and take the points we need.

“Whether it’s one result, where it’s two results, whether it’s three, we just have to keep working and keep believing we are going to get the points that we need to survive.”

Cardiff will next face Oxford on Monday, then play their final home game of the season against West Brom next weekend, before finishing the season away against Norwich.

Twitter users reacted to Omer Riza’s awkward post-match interview after Cardiff’s defeat to Sheffield United goes viral…

@mjccfc: Calling fans clueless midweek, going at journos tonight, god knows what he’ll be doing at Norwich if he’s somehow still here

@jamiegCCFC_: Backs it up. No plan B, reporter asks what he can do to score more goals and he asks the same question back? What chance do we fucking have?

@CYMRU270: Bless him, he’s genuinely asking the interviewer for managerial advice bc he’s realised he can’t do it

@CF11_News: Arrogant, reminds me of Steve Morison for some reason.

@bobbeans83: And we’re the clueless ones…

@goalpostsbaker: Can’t stand him. By far the worst manager we’ve ever had, biggest cunt also. Get him gone.

@MattWilliams10: Trouble is your approach is different every fucking week, fans don’t know if their coming or going letting alone the players! A new formation today and a different team every week and acts like this after today 😂 only manager in history that having a bigger squad has hurt him!

@ltfc_xw10: Seems like a lovely bloke.

@Nelson011983: We were absolutely abysmal today, any decent manager gets at least a draw today. Hate to say it but you’re the worst team I’ve seen this season at the lane, just offered nothing

@ChrisDodd12: Pressure clearly getting to him, but no need to be a Wanker about things.

@Kianccfc2804: Not even a bad question either

@Coakley85: It’s hard to watch, he’s struggling clearly and not just as a manager. Feel for him a bit.

@Stacey_1788: Surely anyone watching this realises he’s out of his depth and doesn’t have a clue. Just sack him!! He won’t walk because he honestly thinks he’s the right man for the job and he isn’t. He is so out of touch with reality. He’s the clueless clown!!!

@_cobibudge: Hate it when managers go back at an interviewer with the whole “why don’t you tell me” thing. You’re the manager, they’re the interviewer. They ask you the questions. And if you don’t want to answer the questions, fine, but don’t try and belittle the interviewer for no reason.

@CCFC_Scotty: He’s become the biggest twat who can’t handle the pressure

@JustinPeach27: Yeah he needs to go. Does he realise the club he manages could get relegated?

@Iologriffiths07: He’s lost the plot…

@KieranEvans_7: Genuinely don’t know how journalists keep their heads when they ask simple questions and get this response. Just asking to get ironed out

@svendcarr17: He does not help himself whatsoever wowwww
