Cardiff fans hit back after manager Omer Riza calls them ‘clueless’ over comments

Cardiff fans hit back after manager Omer Riza calls them ‘clueless’ over comments they made as the club battles to avoid relegation.

The Cardiff City Supporters Trust has labelled what he had to say as “disappointing and disrespectful” after he called some fans “clueless” for their criticism.

Riza, who made the remarks ahead of a crucial match against Sheffield United, acknowledged reading fan comments but insisted many lacked understanding, while also praising “good fans.”

The Trust urged for unity as their side fights relegation, urging Riza to reflect on his “ill-judged” statement.

Social media posts from fans expressed anger, with some demanding Riza’s sacking, highlighting the tension given the club’s precarious Championship position, sitting 22nd with 42 points form 42 games played and are a point from safety.

Speaking to the media a day before the game against promotion-chasing Sheffield United, he said: “I do read comments, I read all the comments from fans and unfortunately a lot of them are clueless.”

Comments regarding fans came after being asked how much of a toll the pressure he has faced during his first permanent senior management position, being the replacement for Erol Bulut back in September.

“It’s something I need to be better at. I’ve got a family. I can be obsessed with the situation and knowing the importance of it and sometimes you can neglect your family, and ignore them at times. Then you reflect and think that shouldn’t happen and as a young manager it’s something I need to get better at.

“I know how important it is. It’s a failure on my part if we go down. I have standards, I have goals, ideas about where I feel I can take this club.

“I do read comments, I read all the comments from fans and unfortunately a lot of them are clueless.

“That’s what I’ve got to learn, I’ve got to learn to come away from that side of things so I can stay focused on what I am doing – because there are lot of good people out there, around the club, a lot of good fans and we’ve got to do this together. ”

“That got turned into a joke – but this isn’t the time for jokes or for people to take the mick out of the situation,” he said.

“For me that’s painful because it seems like any opportunity for people to latch onto something that is supposed to be a positive and turn it into a negative, that’s not a togetherness.

“Whether it’s a manager making mistakes, a player or some of the fans are disgruntled, it’s about everyone pulling together.

“Every press conference I have, maybe a sentence is turned into something it shouldn’t be and that’s disappointing for me. I just want the best for the club. From the bottom of the my heart I want it do well because I’m part of it.”

CCFCSupportersTrust (@CCST1927) said via Twitter: “Trust today issued a statement following comments made yesterday about fans by Omer Riza. Comments that fans are clueless are both disappointing and disrespectful given the need for everyone to be pulling in the same direction as Cardiff City battles to avoid relegation.

“Given the club’s precarious position, the manager, indeed any manager, should expect to receive criticism from fervent supporters who are passionate about the future of our club. We hope Omer will reflect on his ill-judged comments.

As mentioned, Cardiff fans hit back after manager Omer Riza calls them ‘clueless’ over comments made…

@gordonhill54: I am tired of listening to these foreign managers. they are all right or think they are.

@CcfcOK1: Think it’s fair to say us and Wednesday comfortably have some of the worst owners/board in the EFL

@Mattciderarmy37: I mean he isn’t wrong is he, most football fans don’t have a clue, these coaches have worked hard all their lives to get to where they have, I did a level one coaching badge years ago and that was hard enough, then they’ve got fans telling them how they should do their jobs.

@1867Logan: think he’s trying to get sacked now because for some reason their usless board haven’t done so already

@007Sutts: To be fair, he makes a valid point 😉🤣

@BowenWilkie: Nothing we ain’t been saying for years.

@NJCCFC27: Spend our hard earned money, travelling all over the country to watch our team, only for our manager who’s won 5 games in 30 to call us clueless. Get fucked Omer Riza.

@CraigMallett9: Knows he’s taken us down. Knows he will be gone in the summer. His heads gone. The only one who is clueless is him. He should have stepped down during the last international break. Job is way to big for him. I think he could be a good ball boy for someone somewhere though

@scottneedham88: Clearly an unhappy camp. Exactly what we need

@isaacjohnsonLL:
‘Let’s hope Cardiff City can keep composure and do Leeds United a fav-
‘Ah, never mind’

@marchamjack: Perceptive words here by a first class manager doing a superb job accurately describes majority of @CardiffCityFC fans 🤣 #AgentRiza

@CCFCMando: Omer Riza: “I read all the comments from Cardiff fans and unfortunately a lot of them are clueless” How dare a complete failure of a “manager” who’s failed at every aspect of his job have the cheek to come out and say that about us fans who’re unhappy… GET HIM GONE 🖕🏻🤬

@LeedsUnited_MAD: Just get Warnock in for the last few games!

HAVE YOUR SAY
