Notts County player suffers eight-inch leg gash in horror injury

Notts County player Jim O’Brien suffers eight-inch leg gash in horror injury during his side’s FA Trophy win over Chesterfield on Saturday.

The Magpies midfielder slid in on Chesterfield’s Curtis Weston and was caught on his thigh by the Spireites’ player’s studs after just 25 minutes. Get ready to say ouch!

O’Brien had only just returned to the starting lineup having been out of action since September with an arm injury. He said his spell on the sidelines went much quicker than he thought but he was “massively looking forward” to returning.

Now he’s looking at sitting out for plenty of more months following horror injury he picked up at the weekend.

O’Brien ended up being quickly stitched up when he returned back to the dressing room.

Notts County boss Neil Ardley revealed how O’Brien was left devasted and incredibly downbeat at the injury and reality of spending yet more time out.

Ardley said: “It’s not good.

“It’s a massive gash and it’s really deep.

“This could be months. That is my fear.

“He is devastated. He was playing well. He was nice and alive and had trained so hard to get to this point.

“To then have the kick in the proverbials of getting yourself all the way back to having your first game back only to find out that you might be out for months after it, is devastating for everybody.”
