Notts County player says club should’ve stuck with former boss – wouldn’t be in today’s position

One Notts County player has recently spoken out, stating that his club should have stuck with their former boss and that he wouldn’t have got the club where it is today.

Striker Jon Stead was indeed talking of Kevin Nolan, who was given the boot back in August last season and was said to be keen on re-joining the club. However the club opted for Neal Ardley instead, however despite his best efforts and ongoing issues behind the scenes at the club regarding Alan Hardy, they sit bottom of the EFL, two points from safety with two games remaining.

The former Bolton, Newcastle, West Ham player took Notts County to the League Two playoffs last season. However, the manager was shown the door after they picked up one point in five league matches.

Jon Stead said, as quoted by NottinghamshireLive: “It’s probably a more a collective thing that, in terms of our togetherness and our cohesion as a team, it has not been as a good as it was last season,” he said.

“You can put that down to lots of things be it changes in manager, personnel, players coming and going and things that have happened off the field.

“But as a group we haven’t been as good collectively or individually as we were last season.

“While we weren’t brilliant from Christmas last year, we lost some key figures in Ryan Yates and Jorge Grant.

“You take Granty’s goals out of the team and it’s going to leave a hole.

“We’ve had to pick up the pieces, we made signings, but the season didn’t start well and the changes started.

“In my opinion, Kev should have still been here. He should have been the man to steady the ship.

“That’s not having a go at the two managers who came in after, because the gaffer here now is doing a fantastic job at keeping us going.

“But I don’t think we would be in this position if we had stuck with Kev.”

After watch Jon Stead’s comments, stating that Notts County should not have sacked Kevin Nolan, and that if he was in charge, they wouldn’t have been where they are today, fans took to give mixed thoughts with some disagreeing and others pleased with player honesty – check out what they had to say on the next page.
