Nottingham Forest want to appoint one particular promotion specialist as their new manager with their current boss close to getting the chop.
The Reds’ Greek owner Evangelos Marinakis has been left shocked by the poor start to the campaign and a parting of ways is now very close.
They currently sit in the Championship relegation zone, having lost all four of their league matches. Now Chris Hughton is being looked at to change that for the better.
Marinakis decided not to to fire Lamouchi at the end of last season when the club’s form saw them miss out on the playoffs on goal-difference.
They finished with three points from their final six games. This included a final day 4–1 defeat at home to Stoke to miss out on the top six on goal difference. Eek.
Marinakis instead changed Lamouchi’s backroom staff and supported him with 13 new signings but has been left angry at seeing the club’s downfall continue into the new campaign.
Speaking after the game, Lamouchi said: “It was a different game but the same mistake, it is unacceptable to only start playing in the second half. We should play the whole game like that, from minute one with the same spirit as in the second half.
“We created a lot, fortunately we scored but unfortunately not enough to come back into the game and put them under more pressure, but it was easy for them to play against us and to score.
“This is not Forest, this is not professional and we need to wake up and to understand that everyone needs to take responsibility.
“I am sorry to say that but new players, new team, this is it. We are professional and we need to do our jobs. On the pitch we need to run, to fight and to respect the plan.
“To play like that, to not win the second balls or the duels and to make easy mistakes is easy for the opponent, to come to The City Ground and score and keep the result until the end.”
That man is former Premier League boss Chris Hughton, who a few months ago expressed an interest in taking over from Lee Johnson at Bristol City, however missed out on the role.
He has been out of work for two years having been sacked by Brighton & Hove Albion after just about managing to keep them up in the 2018/19 season.
Hughton had his contract terminated by the Seagulls – the team he won came Championship runners up with in 2017 despite avoiding the drop from the Premier League.
However he won just three of their last 23 league games and none of their final nine.
He has also managed Norwich City, Birmingham City and Newcastle United (won the Championship with in 2010).
In October 2019, Hughton turned down replacing Nathan Jones as manager Stoke City.
He also said: “I do want to get back in at the highest level that I can but I’m using my time out well and very much making the most of it.
“I’m in the fortunate position, I’m not a first time manager or second time manager that is worried about where the next job is coming from and it’s a very precarious profession that we’re in.
“So, I’m all through all of that. I supposed I would be seen as a more experienced manager now, so I think that takes a little bit of pressure off.”

Would be very happy with Chris Hughton.
Don’t think we’ll get that one done, though. #nffc
