Nottingham Forest sack Sean Dyche after 114 days and look for fourth manager of the season

Nottingham Forest sack Sean Dyche after 114 days and look for what will be their fourth manager of the 2025/26 season.

The decision was made following Nottingham Forest’s 0-0 draw with Wolves on Wednesday, leaving them just three points above the Premier League relegation zone. The announcement came at 12:30am.

Sean Dyche leaves with the club sitting 18th in the Premier League table, on a poor run of one win in eight games. In Europe, Forest finished 13th in their Europa League group (4 wins, 2 draws, 2 defeats) to qualify for the knockout phase, where they face Fenerbahçe in a two-legged tie next week, aiming for the last 16.

They have already exited both domestic cups, the EFL Cup third round loss to Swansea (3-2) and FA Cup third round penalty defeat to Wrexham.

According to various media outlets, former Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is in talks, having worked previously worked under Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis at Greek club Olympiacos

He would follow Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou and Sean Dyche who have all been at the helm this season

A brief club statement read: “Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that Sean Dyche has been relieved of his duties as head coach.

“We would like to thank Sean and his staff for their efforts during their time at the Club and we wish them the best of luck for the future. We will be making no further comment at this time.”

Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche, speaking to TNT Sports: “There were some really good chances. They normally go in or should go in, it’s very frustrating. We probed and asked questions but you have to find that killer moment.

“They have found it in other games. There is a lot of noise around this place. I said when we got here that it was not going to be easy. It’s hard for us to take when it’s not quite our day. The fans have been terrific home and away. The other side of it is a clean sheet and another point on the board.

“I’ve been doing this in the Premier League for a long time. We needed to win tonight but didn’t. You’re frustrated when you dominate the game.

“It’s not news to me [pressure]. It’s what you get over the course of the season. We have to move forward and work hard again.

“We have to do better than that in front of goal. There is no lack of effort from the players. They’re not shying away from it. There’s no time to lick your wounds. You have to park it. The main thing is the unity of the group.”

Player of the Match Elliot Anderson speaking to TNT Sports: “Just weren’t clinical. We had a lot of the ball and just tried to break down the back five, got some good balls into the box but not clinical enough.

“It just hasn’t clicked today but couldn’t fault the energy of the lads.”

On whether this is a missed opportunity: It’s really disappointing, especially at home. Three points was what we wanted, but we didn’t lose, so look at the positives there.”

On the boos at full-time: “It’s frustrating, couldn’t fault the lads and just want the crowd behind us. I get it’s frustrating for them, but all I say is stick with it.

“There’s no time to dwell on things, we’ve got tough games coming up, and every game matters now.”

Henry Winter tweeted: “Utter Work Nonsense. Nottingham Forest sack Sean Dyche. Nominated for Manager of the Month for January. Last 6 PL games: 2 wins, 3 draws, 1 loss. Wolves draw was undeniably poor. No goals from 35 attempts. But Forest’s best finisher is 34 and been injured since October. When you are on your fourth manager of the season, the problem might not simply be them, it might also be you – recruitment, culture and the right leadership from owner and sporting director. Marinakis has done a lot for Forest, but he’s embarrassing them now. Edu also an issue. Forest fans deserve better than this poor leadership. #NFFC”

Here’s how fans reacted after Nottingham Forest sack Sean Dyche after 114 days and look for fourth manager of the season…

@tomopurcell: Vitor Pereira? When names do the rounds like this with us, it’s pretty much done. The guy who masterminded Wolves downfall. The only positive I can see is that to the players, he isn’t Sean Dyche, so there may be a bounce. But we will likely go down. Heartbreaking. #nffc

@CallumWilbraham: Teams around us picking up points and improving whilst we are getting worse. Squad selection poor, tactics poor, zero fan engagement and said the same old BS in interviews. It’s the right decision to sack but Edu must be next. He’s got blood on his hands #NFFC

@YouBloodyReds: Evangelos Marinakis, this is on you, big fella. You are the cause. the effect is Edu, Kia/Bertolucci, Nuno, Ange then Dyche. We’re going to have to be very lucky to not be a Champ side next season. Hope we’re prepping so we’re ready for it. “A new history” #NFFC #Forest

@badger1gun: The sad thing for me is that Dyche clearly cares about the club. He just didn’t seem to know how to get us playing decent football with the players we’ve got. I’m not sure sacking him now will change anything but we are where we are. Depends who’s next i guess #NFFC #dyche

@Lea_EFC: Ridiculous decision ❌ Trust me from experience, Dyche knows how to keep a side up. He done it with a far less talented squad to Everton too. Madness 🤯

@NFFC_owen: Half feels bad for Dyche. Joined a sinking ship. But he didn’t help himself. Laughing stock of a club.

@NFFCLMA: Players will be absolutely buzzing he’s gone. Him Woan & Stone treated training like an army camp and caused injuries because of it. 100% the Murillo injury is down to over working them in training. Thank god he’s gone #nffc

@Helmkay6:
Absolute calamity of a season. Edu has wrecked us.
£200 million spent with minimal impact
4th manager incoming
Heading towards the drop
EM has had credit in the bank, but this is just a shit show. Gone from
Europe and excitement to dull and uninspiring.
Gutting.
