Northampton are keen to appoint a League Two boss as their new manager with the club’s relegation which was confirmed on Saturday.
They have been relegated from League One after just one season following their 3-0 home defeat by Blackpool, with Rochdale also going down.
The Cobblers needed to better Wigan Athletic’s result to stand any chance of taking their survival bid to the final day.
However the Latics lost at Hull, goals from Luke Garbutt and two from Jerry Yates were enough to win the game for the Tangerines and send Northampton down.
Victory meant Blackpool, who have a game in hand, need a point to secure a play-off spot with Portsmouth and Oxford United battling it out also.
Interim Northampton boss Jon Brady was left deeply hurt after the game and was left fighting back tears knowing he couldn’t save them from the drop.
He knows that his efforts weren’t enough and he’s set to be replaced, potential with Morecambe manager Derek Adams according to reports on Sunday.
Adams, 45, has been in charge of League Two side since 2019. He has previously had spells at Ross County and Plymouth Argyle, and now Adams’ side currently sit in 4th place of the League Two table, with just one point separating them from the promotion spots with a game to go.
The ever reliable journalist Alan Nixon writes how Adams is being watched by Northampton Town following their relegation from League One yesterday.
Nixon then adds in his report that, if Adams can’t take his Morecambe side into League One then he might be tempted to make the switch to Northampton Town.
John Brady said after the final whistle: “I’m deeply hurt by today now that we have been relegated because I honestly believed from the outset that we could do it and I never gave up believing.
Brady added: “We started well and it could have been a different story because we had two penalty shouts in the first five minutes – Peter Kioso was grappled to the floor and Ryan Watson was tripped over but the referee hasn’t seen either of them.
“AJ’s then not strong enough, they go on the counter-attack and the boy shouldn’t be able to score from that angle. The second one is a fumble and then there’s the third one late on.
“They’ve invested well and they’re a class outfit but I felt we were really in the game up until half-time.”

Northampton recently were appointing a certain manager of a National League club following Keith Curle’s departure on the 10th of February.
Football Insider stated that Sutton United’s Matt Gray had been in the frame according to one source at Sixfields. It remains to be seen whether there is still interest for him.
The non league outfit currently sit 2nd, taking 72 points from 36 games played, in what is playing out to be a thrilling battle for promotion to the Football League.
