Non league clubs have been no stranger to posting hilarious Deadline Day tweets and managed to go viral whilst in the process of that.
With it being the exciting day itself, we’ve taken a look at some of the best, with the likes of Barton Rovers, Macclesfield Town, Didcot Town, Hitchin Town and many more.
The transfer window restriction does not apply to clubs in or below the National League division, but some clubs at non league level can’t help but getting in on the act and making a joke or too as Premier League and EFL clubs do their business…
Barton Rovers will be most remembered for their tweet posted on the deadline day of January 2017, posting a picture of a rake.
They made sure they weren’t missing out on some deals, writing: “Deadline day signing news, not to be out done by the ‘Big Boys’ we have spent £6.99 at Homebase on a new rake #NonLeague its how we roll.”

Their tweet went on to get over 4,600 likes, whilst also getting shared 3,900 times, giving the club some huge exposure off the back of it.
Another time saw Macclesfield Town plan an audacious deadline day swoop for Yaya Toure.
In 2015, they posted a tweet of a birthday cakes which as we all know are important to Yaya Toure.
The club posted a picture of a cake for ‘Yaya’ on Twitter with the caption: “We are working on one big deal. Talks had stalled but we have made a big promises for the future.”
Toure was infamously at the centre of a story a good while ago now, suggesting he was considering his future at The Etihad because officials hadn’t bought him a cake on his special day.

Next up is Hitchin Town, who themselves tried to bring in a former Premier League player on Deadline Day, this time it was Jack Wilshere.
The ex-Gunners midfielder, who lives nearby Hitchin, teased that he will train with the non league outfit after announcing that he was terminating his contract with West Ham United.
Straight off the bat, Hitchin got in touch and jokingly offered their training facilities to the midfielder, should he need somewhere to keep fit.
They tweeted: “@JackWilshere if you need somewhere to keep fit while you find a new club, we’re in the market for a 28-year-old creative midfielder from Hitchin. You know where we are.”

He didn’t seem to turn them down either. Wilshere quipped: “See you tomorrow. What time? Don’t need to be getting fined day one.”

Didcot Town have also previously got in on the fun of Deadline Day, posting a series of tweets, winning the attention of football fans on Twitter.
They put up amusing posts such as: “The club is in talks with an unnamed player, 4 Pints of Carlsberg and a bag of pork scratchings are unable to seal the deal. #DeadlineDay”
They added another with: “UPDATE: 4 hours remaining, we’re digging around in the cupboards and have added half a packet of Jaffa Cakes as a Signing Fee. #DeadlineDay”
Then wrote: “UPDATE: Fee has been agreed, 5 pints and a multipack of Quavers. Unfortunately his clubs fax machine has no toner. NO DEAL #DeadlineDay”

A little more similarly to Barton Rovers, Sholing also made a big addition which would have made a different at the club.
They took to Twitter, posting a simple sentence: “As the transfer window total goes past £800 million, Sholing been given the go ahead to buy a new hoover for the clubhouse”

Gloucester City also highlighted how eye-watering it was seeing the total amount spent in one previous transfer window.
They wrote: “Over £1.05 billion spent in this transfer window – enough to fund our wage budget for over 7000 years.”
Really just goes to show the difference and how much that sums of cash could really benefit one club.

Hyde United tried to bring in one of the most talked about footballers in the world, only for the deal to fail in materialising.
The club said: “Rumours of Falcao being spotted getting a Pound Bakery in Hyde are unconfirmed.. #DeadlineDay”
Hyde added “Sorry Tigers fans Falcao has just failed his medical here at Hyde Leisure Pool, he couldn’t swim against the wave machine so the deal’s off.”
A year ago today Falcao failed his medical with us, it still hurts 😩 #DeadlineDay https://t.co/6ob5bVdlx9

They did have another deadline day tweet that went viral,
“Crowds beginning to gather outside our training ground for #deadlineday. Unfortunately we train at a school. Please disperse. #Yewtree”

And who can forget the time that Kaka signed for Aveley?! Ok, it didn’t happen but Aveley couldn’t help but crack a joke from outside their ground.
They tweeted: “KaKa has been spotted at Mill Field in the Car Park”
