Non league club postpones fixtures after death of 21 year old footballer

Non league club Bakewell Town postpones their upcoming weekend fixtures after the sad death of 21 year old footballer Kyle Shimwell.

A footballer has lost his life after a car he was travelling in left the road went into the front of a shop.

Police confirm emergency services were called to King Street, in Bakewell, Derbyshire, at about 00:30 GMT on Saturday.

The Bakewell Town footballer was a passenger in the Fiat 500 and had been rushed to hospital where he died two days later.

The driver, a 21-year-old female, was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She had been detained on suspicion of driving over the limit for alcohol and bailed pending further inquiries.

Bakewell Town FC is devastated to learn of the passing of one of our own, Kyle Shimwell, at the young age of 21.

Thoughts are with Kyle’s family and friends at this time.

Bakewell Town Football Club have made the decision to postpone all Senior fixtures this weekend.

Bakewell Town FC is devastated to learn of the passing of one of our own, Kyle Shimwell, at the young age of 21.

Kyle has played for Bakewell since he was an under-6, was a commited player of our Development Team & has stepped up into the First Team on many an occasion.

BTFC will do all it can to support Kyle’s family and plans are being put in place to ensure his memory lives on and that we make him proud.

Our thoughts are with Kyle’s family and friends at this difficult time.
