Non league club Sheffield International issues what has ended up being a hilarious Twitter thread ‘trying to play a match only to be busted’.
With the country in mourning at the Queen’s death, and Charles taking over as King, football has been cancelled with the FA saying those who try to go against their ruling could be punished.
This club however, who play in Division 3 of the Sheffield & District Fair Play League, have tried to find a way to do just that if you like, to really show how sad the situation has become.
Sheffield International FC wrote: “Because the queen died, we will not be playing our league game against Byron House tomorrow morning at 10.30am.
“We will instead be aiming to play a friendly tomorrow morning, against Byron House, kick-off 10.30am.
“Update, someone’s snitched on us so now even the friendly is off.
“So instead we’re having a training session tomorrow morning, at 10.30am.
“If that gets cancelled we’ll have a game of rugby seeing as that’s deemed respectful enough
“Byron House more than welcome to come along, just remember to maintain social distancing at all times to ensure… wait a minute we’re not in a pandemic any more are we?
“Silly billies. Everyone’s turned up in their match kit 🤦♂️
“Oh wow! Byron House have arrived! Fancy seeing them here!
“Think we’re the only club in the world that have two lads scrapping halfway through a ‘training session’ and trial a keeper who ends up as our main striker.
“Steady morning.

FA STATEMENT:
Her Majesty the Queen was a long-standing Patron of The Football Association and has left a lasting and indelible legacy on our national game.
As a mark of respect, following the passing of Her Majesty the Queen, English football has united to postpone all football fixtures between 9-11 September.
The FA can confirm that all football fixtures across the Barclays Women’s Super League, Barclays Women’s Championship, the Vitality Women’s FA Cup, and the Isuzu FA Trophy, will be postponed this weekend.
We can also confirm that all football fixtures across the National League System [NLS], Steps 1-6, including the Vanarama National Leagues, the Women’s Football Pyramid [WFP], Tiers 3-7, and matches across grassroots football in England will be postponed.
The Premier League and the EFL have all confirmed that their fixtures this weekend will be rescheduled for a later date.
All flags at Wembley Stadium and St. George’s Park will continue to fly at half-mast over the weekend.
Our thoughts remain with our president, HRH The Duke of Cambridge, and the whole of the Royal Family during this time.

There was plenty of reaction as the non league club issues a rather hilarious Twitter thread trying to play a match only to be busted…
@Aidden9320: This is brilliant 😭🤣
@b_mc11: This is absolutely brilliant 😂
@TheMarkGordon: This should earn you a nomination for BBC Sports Personality Team of the Year.
@Motchell9: Elite 👏😂😂
@antsswfc23: Well done sheff inter and Byron House for showing that some common sense does still exist in the world … I mean what a coincidence that u both happens to turn up to train at the same time on the same pitch – fantastic ♥️💪⚽
@chapperswxm: Nothing to see here. 😂
@sugarfreetic: Enjoy your joint training session. Important to keep your fitness up in these sad times. #playon
@GeorgeC_09: Genius idea, right until it was tweeted. Fair play
@DavidBadura40: Im absolutely here for this 😂
@clagmonster1: If I had seen this in advance I would have gone along. Love a good training session, especially when two different sides turn up to train in their match kits.
@CFCscore: Fulham are literally down the street. Literally just ‘accidentally’ bump into them and organise a friendly game for 3 points
@simone_anthony_: This is amazing, cancelling the football was such a stupid move
@Cal_Hynes: Truly shocking… How dare you boys get out, exercise and enjoy your weekends
@IanWalford: I hope you’re playing them at Rugby.
@jwilkoAVFC: may as well have a kickabout with them i reckon
@craigh1307: Can anyone stream the training session please
@Sheasy64: Are Match Of The Day cameras there?
@joewhitham22: Finally found a team worth supporting
@DrAlexJack1: Any historian who wants to explore reactions to the FA ban on grassroots football this weekend may wish to explore this thread (and its popularity) by Sheffield International FC (Sheffield & District Fair Play League, 3rd Div)
@M_J_Wallace: This genuinely made me laugh and shows the stupidity of cancelling grass roots football this weekend
@LeighMcManus1: My team will be having an inter club friendly instead of our league game, because it is ludicrous that football should be cancelled forcibly
@LiamDonnachie: Need odds on first goal scorer
@yana1867: Not blaming these teams at all. I’m blaming the FA. Cancelling all league/competitive football but allowing friendlies if teams are affiliated. It’s a joke! I won’t be refereeing friendlies so members of the public can’t be having a go, but it’s another mess of the FA’s making.
@CMDavies08: Best thread I’ve seen this week 🤣🤣
@mccausland_john: Think this sums it up. I imagine all pubs and clubs are open so you can get blind drunk and be a nuisance but not have silence/applause before a sports match 🤔
Play a test match v South Africa 👍. Apparently that’s acceptable 🏏 pic.twitter.com/K3TlPxdGxm
