Non league boss sacked as angry exchange of messages is posted online

Fans couldn’t believe what they were seeing on Monday evening when a non league boss got sacked as an angry exchange of messages is posted online.

In what has been described by Peterborough Today as a ‘bizarre episode’, the Peterborough Northern Star’s club Twitter account was hacked by someone who had access to text messages between manager Scott Goodwin and club co-owner Scott Steward.

A series of now deleted ‘abusive’ messages between the two were vented out publicly on the social media side, however neither of the two has denied they are genuine.

What was seen was a chairman sharing his frustration with his manager’s failure to build what he viewed as a competitive side, despite only being appointed back in May 2020.

The manager received personal insults and accusations from the chairman, while being disappointed over the ground development promises not being kept.

Peterborough Today state that Goodwin denies posting any messages on Star’s Twitter account.

Steward was already not satisfied after his side suffered a 4-3 pre-season defeat to a young Kettering Town team. The United Counties League season is expected to start in September, but Steward was concerned that current squad will struggle.

Steward has since sacked Goodwin and the co-owner is expected to issue an official club statement on the 11th of August 11.

Other reports from Peterborough Today claim that Seb Hayes, who resigned as manager of Wisbech Town in December 2019, held discussions with Steward about the taking up the role to replace Goodwin.

However the Peterborough Northern Star co-owner dismissed rumours re Seb Hayes returning to the club as a ‘total lie’.

Goodwin came in, released every player of last season’s squad, and brought in players he knew that were sure to do a better job for the upcoming campaign.

Now it looks like they won’t be able to have a chance of playigng any leagues games with the players he had signed now expected to depart following Goodwin’s sacking.

Goodwin informed last season’s squad of their release via WhatsApp, and it was on Monday (10 August) that he was sacked by text message.

A statement from Peterborough Northern Star read: “PNS Social Media Activity.

Due to the improper conduct of a a club official prior to this evening, inclusive of social media posts and professional manner we have decided to part ways with the first team manager.

“This resulted in a series of private messages being publicly posted, some containing some personal information, which will cause confusion and concern, and we sincerely apologise for this.

“The PNS committee had lost control of the social media accounts, as the individual had blocked all other users and changed security settings. This has now been resolved.

“We would like to make it clear that Paolo Iantosca had no involvement with these posts, and will continue to form part of our media team.

“It seems we put our trust in the wrong person, and this will be a big learning curve for the new set up at the club. We can only be honest and appreciate the support the club has.”

Manager Scott Goodwin has added: “There’s so much more…. never known a man like that ever, liar after liar, he’s now ringing the players that was no good 6 hours ago asking them back, and wait for it.

“Telling them I’ve now harass some women from the lady’s team WOW
You couldn’t make it up.”
