‘No team better than us’ – Big talk from Dorking’s Marc White who is plotting National League South promotion at the first attempt.
It’s fair to say the confidence is high with the founder, owner, chairman, and manager in his team’s capabilities as they prepare for the sixth tier the season after suffering relegation.
This suggests that White believes Dorking Wanderers have a strong squad capable of competing for promotion to the National League.
Marc White on National League South! 💫👀
🗣️”I don’t think anyone has as good an 11 as us… Not in a million years!”

Interviewer: Marc, total new mentality and feel around the place and there has to be really, doesn’t there?
Marc White: Yeah, yeah. Long time coming really. Last season I would argue we got caught up in the mire really. I think what we didn’t do brilliantly was and that’s probably indicative of like the off field pressure we had. But what we didn’t do brilliantly was take a step back, restrategised probably. We sat tight. We hoped the injured plaid would return. We looked at a tight league table. It kind of duped you into thinking once the players are back we pick up three, four wins. I look back now, I think we’d almost have been better off being six points adrift, like Fylde because then you really do think right, what we’re going to do here. So yeah, there was lots of things on the list to be dealt with that have now been dealt with.
I would say we’ve quietly signed really well for this division. Camp is exceptional and Jordan Williams as well. Great talent. Rhys Murphy, just with Rhys Murphy it feels a little bit like he could be in the right place at the right time for the club and for him. He, you know, we’re going to create a lot of box entries, you know, have a lot of possession and Murphy is just an out and out finisher and we’ve seen that pre-season in the limited games he’s had.
So we’ve signed well, we’ve changed around the physio team a little bit as well and there’s a really good feel about the place. There won’t be a lot of stress around it this year. Everything’s changed completely and we’ve got.
Our expectations are that we’ll be the sort of better team in the league. I don’t think there’d be anyone really with as good 11 as us, not in a million years if we’re being honest, and I want to be honest about that because that is how it is. I’m not over talking it, I’m just being honest about that. So I think over whatever games it is, you know, hopefully we come out on top
Interviewer: And just final thoughts go well this season, have an awful lot of fun and just from the club’s point of view you’ve been forever trying to play catch up off the pitch. You wouldn’t have chosen this relegation but you’ve embraced it, haven’t you? And does that give Dorking a little bit of an opportunity just to catch up off the pitch? Cause it’s been relentless year on year, trying to keep up with the growth.
Marc: We went 1-0 up against Rochdale last year amidst a really good run of form away from home. And someone said to me, in the little bit next to him in the VIP area, they said to me, we’re in the playoffs. Yeah. And as an owner, I know straight away well we can be top of the league, mate. Listen, we’ve got an artificial pitch in a ground where we don’t have the say over what happens to that pitch. We’re all ready. We’re still doing the work required for the previous promotion and it is just the case that you. That everything did happen really quick.
Listen, we can never make excuses or pacify the disappointment of a relegation. Obviously, sitting in that division and building would have been the ideal scenario. But listen, we’re not afraid because we’re after promotion number 13. Yeah, we’re after 100 points and, you know, people will say Dorking won’t find it that easy. Well, I would argue if you look at the three years we played in this division that a lot would have to go wrong for us not to have a big season.
This is how fans reacted to big talk from Dorking’s Marc White who plotting National League South promotion at the first attempt…
@Toby1099634: 🤣 bookmarked
@rherrickmedia: Would love to see the success rates of comments like these before a season starts 😂🙈
@elliott9kev: HAHAHAHA
@st1ngstone: Dorking are a very good side but that’s very debatable.
@LinekersToe: Bookmarked
@charlieliney: Finishing 10th
@benstonesfc1: Gotta a lot of time for Marc White these days. You know he’s playing the game and wants to piss people off. Thats what he does, that’s his mindset which I haven’t got too much of a problem with. Our boys will run them close though. This is a very talented squad we’ve got 🖤💛
@goddywestie: Let’s see about that, shall we ? #tufc
@jjskeffington: Yeeeeeeow! Go on boss!
@South_Ryan: That’s Wottons team talk against dorking sorted then
@G_TUFC: Micheal, share the video with the gaffer and get it played in the changing room before we play them in August!
@QswannT: He’s confident…. bring on 24th August and we’ll see how well this interview ages! 💛💙
@Tommyktufc: Underestimate this division at your peril. Us Torquay fans found out the hard way about expecting an easy ride of things. Expect Dorking to be up there, but plenty of good sides will challenge this season. Hopefully we will be one of them! #TUFC
@Palmerlona14: This is motivation for any other team in the #NLS I like Marc White and respect his accomplishments but these comments don’t help his team in the slightest. A good 11 doesn’t win leagues definitely during those hard winter months. Don’t expect them to win the league
@alftufc: Now this is where Torquay United come in.. 🤩
@TheFootyScout2: Agree with Mark about them having the best squad, but also one of the oldest squads (last time I checked 8 players 30+) and with their pitch it’s not going play to there advantage – overall I still think they’re favourites for the title!
@G_TUFC: Really like MW but this has to be bookmarked 🤣
@seanbaker87: That’s confident 😂😂😂
@djc_86: “After 100 points” “no team better than us” Big talk from Marc White ahead of this seasons Dorking campaign. Is there anyone stronger or can take them on?
@Toby1099634: Torquay last season look at what happened incredibly hard league this year hope this bites him
@aydengillespi: plenty of teams will run him close , his players don’t know the league as well as other clubs do
@JSWC1995: Boreham Wood will win the NLS 100%
@Dutchboy741: It is going to be a tough league this season. Love to win it with Worthing but I reckon it could be anyone’s
Nothing like praising your squad + making them feel 10 feet tall, ey?!
As far as the “best 11” goes, the metrics I’d use to classify what makes a good team wouldn’t be picking Dorking Wanderers as the #1.
A good side though; Carter is a quality player. Divisional POTY worthy. https://t.co/3eaLjs0TA8 pic.twitter.com/A4cH01UeJA
