There were bizarre scenes on Tuesday night as a nightmare own goal from Jack Armer doubles Wycombe’s lead over Burton.
It was an own goal every defender has nightmares about, as Jack Armer had a moment to forget when putting the ball in his own net on the 59th minute.
There was confusion at the back as Jack Armer place the ball past his own goalkeeper. A ball behind was intercepted by the 23-year-old but his pass back to Crocombe wrongfooted the keeper, Jack Armer left his head in his hands.
The result leaves Burton sitting 21st in the League One table, with 33 points from 35 games played, and 3 points from safety, but teams around the Brewers have a game or two in hand. Wycombe sit 2nd with 67 points from 34 games played, two points above 3rd place Wrexham who have played the same amount of games.

Burton Albion Head Coach Gary Bowyer said post-match, per the club website: “There’s some valuable lessons for us to have learned there tonight carrying forward to the next 11 games.
“We didn’t start the game particularly well, we were too passive and we showed them too much respect.
“The first was a disappointing goal from us, and then the manner of the second goal killed our momentum.
“I have to give credit to us. We still created chances. With what we’ve got, the group that we’ve got, we’ll always create chances. We had Charlie Webster’s effort and then JJ [McKiernan]’s effort.
“We’ve come here, they are second in the league and they have an experienced team. Look at their bench and they are bringing [Garath] McCleary on, it shows you the fire power that they have.”
Gary spoke about squad depth following the defeat.
“I’m not using that as an excuse,” he said, “it’s the same for teams up and down the country.”
“We’ve got to make sure that we get some back and keep them fit. Whoever we have, if it’s Larsson making his first start or Forde – who I thought at times did well in midfield for us – they have to step forward when the opportunity arises. That’s what having a squad is all about.
“Every game in this league is tough. we have to make sure we recover quickly and get ready for that.”
Wycombe boss Mike Dodds said, per Bucks Free Press: “We have only conceded two goals in six games which is great but I was really pleased with our in-possession stuff.
“That was excellent, as you can see the work we have been working on.
“It was very pleasing watching that in the first half.
“We had three big chances so I thought the game should have been done at half-time, so the longer the game goes on, it gives them hope, similar to the Wigan game recently.
“Take nothing away from Gary – he has done a brilliant job as Burton are fighting for their lives as there is no easy game in this league.
“But overall, a 2-0 win and a clean sheet is good and I really liked the in-possession stuff we played which is an evolving piece.
“We will enjoy this moment before we go to Peterborough on Saturday.
“We just have to stay consistent and balance and we’ll be fine.”
