Newport County reveal their plan to make the atmosphere more intimidating for when they come against Man Utd in the FA Cup Fourth Round.
The Exiles booked their place with a 3-1 replay win against Eastleigh at Silverlake Stadium on Tuesday night, and now look forward to welcoming the Premier League giants for what will be one of, if not the biggest game in their history.
Aaron Wildig put Newport ahead on the 2nd minute in the game against league below Eastleigh in midweek, before Paul McCallum drew the sides level after the break, then James Clarke and Will Evans scored late on to send the Welsh outfit through.
Newport wasted no time in preparing for that Fourth Round clash, but also have a big league fixture in hosting Wrexham before that.
Newport have once again installed a temporary stand to increase their stadium’s capacity by up to 1,000 which will open for the game against Wrexham this Saturday, and then used again for the game against Man Utd on the 28th of January, with the capacity set at 9,000 for them games.
County, who will get around £400,000 from the televised cup clash, said in a statement this week: “Another 1,000 passionate members of the Amber Army will get the chance to back the Exiles against Wrexham and Manchester United with the erection of a temporary stand behind the North Terrace.
“Construction of the uncovered stand will get underway Wednesday afternoon in time for the League Two clash with Wrexham on Saturday after the Welsh derby sold out last week.
“It will remain in place for the Emirates FA Cup fourth round tie against Premier League Manchester United on Sunday, January 28 (4.30pm).
“While the additional ticket sales will only just cover the costs of erecting the stand for the two games, the club felt it was important to offer as many people as possible from the local community the opportunity to sample big game football at Rodney Parade – and help build momentum for the future.
“The club is also adding an additional 400 seats to the away stand to meet the FA’s allocation guidelines for the Manchester United tie. The seats will remain in place for the League Two games against Wrexham, Swindon and Notts County to cover costs.
“Tickets in the new North Stand for Saturday’s clash with Wrexham will be on sale from 10am tomorrow morning (Wednesday, January 17).
“They are priced at £24 adult; £20 seniors; £18 young adult (16-21); £12 under-16; £10 under-12; Free for under-6.
“Supporters are encouraged to purchase online HERE to avoid large queues at the ticket office or via phone. Those purchasing online can print their ticket at home or use their mobile phone to present their confirmation email (ticket barcode) at the turnstile on matchday. Simples!“

Manager Graham Coughlan, whose family are Man Utd fans, including himself, said: “We have some really juicy fixtures coming up with Wrexham on Saturday, Manchester United and Swindon after that. We have three sell-outs coming up.
“Our football club should cherish that, our football club should revel in that. Hopefully we can go out do ourselves proud on Saturday and hopefully do ourselves proud against the mighty Manchester United.
“He added: ‘”It’ll be a hell of an occasion.
“It’s a fourth round tie against Manchester United, for me the biggest club in this country, in Europe and in the world.
“I know some people would lean towards the fifth round game against Manchester City [in February 2019], but I’d say Manchester United all day long.
“We’re a big Manchester United family, we’ve been to FA Cup finals with them.
“I can’t get my head around it to be honest, they are unbelievable names.
“Just to have Manchester United coming to Rodney Parade is a hell of an achievement.
“I don’t know when it will sink in, I’m sure my family are doing Irish jigs around the house at the moment.’
Newport add: “The club is also adding an additional 400 seats to the away stand to meet the FA’s allocation guidelines for the Manchester United tie.”
It was in 2018 that the record attendance for a Newport County match at Rodney Parade was set at 9,836 against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup Fourth Round.
They also had a temporary stand holding 1,072 seats for that fixture, placing it behind the North Terrace.
For that game, they managed to hold them to a 1-1 draw but Newport lost 2-1 in the replay at Tottenham.
