Newcastle United gives response after young mascot is left by herself on pitch

Newcastle United gives a response after a young mascot is left by herself on the pitch ahead of the game against Liverpool.

Footage has emerged online by TikTok user @doubleh8596, showing the female, who had walked out with the players, seemingly abandoned as the players then ran off to the touchline where they took their pre-match track jackets off.

It wasn’t until a Liverpool member of staff who filmed the hosts’ warm up when he then pointed her to the dugout, having been left in the centre circle.

Liverpool mascots had been at the other end of the pitch, kicking the ball around with Virgil van Dijk.

TV footage goes on to show her making her way off with the Liverpool mascots.

@LukeEdwardsTele: “I have been in touch with people at Newcastle this evening after seeing this and they are looking to make things right with the mascot. Felt so sorry for the little girl.”

In his report for Telegraph Sport, he said Newcastle are to reach out to the family of the mascot after the news and media outlet contacted senior figures at the club after the video circulated online.

Club officials hadn’t been aware of the incident but say they will investigate and to put things right for the young supporter.

After the video ended, it is said that a member of staff at Anfield brought the girl over to the Newcastle bench, where she shook hands with manager Eddie Howe.

Newcastle United Supporters Trust tweeted: “We spoke to the club about this yesterday – they are aware and it is being addressed and action being taken. #NUFC

“It was obviously not intentional- also it’s the job of Liverpool staff to safeguard the children at their stadium.

“It’s not one persons fault but generally there is a nominated adult from the home club that coordinate the mascots. That doesn’t excuse the players not making sure she was ok – but if this happened at SJP the nominated adult would have been straight over to her.”

Here’s how social media users reacted as Newcastle United gives a response after a young mascot is left by herself on the pitch…

@jackb18_: shocking. hope the club can sort something out for her

@NUSCuk: This is so disappointing to see. We will encourage the club to reach out to the young lass and her family to put it right. #NUFC

@agbnufc_: Give her 90 minutes up front as an apology, cannot be worse than what I’m watching this season in our attack.

@AnnaHam58112376: Hard watch this. Poor little thing looks so lost.

@AdamP1242: Not a good look from Newcastle United, hopefully the club will see it and do something for the mascot #NUFC

@Chelsearory: Not one of them has put their arm round her and made her feel welcome and part of the team? She’s about 7 years old and they have just left her stood on the pitch totally isolated. I have a daughter that age, she’d be totally overawed in that situation.

@_KierMoore_: It’s telling that the young girl looks to Liverpool’s own cameraman for safety and reassurance. Being surrounded by 61,000 people, she is a probably scared after being left on her own. Newcastle should do the right things and offer a training ground tour and a mascot place at an upcoming Newcastle Game.

@weeramborossa: Mistakes can happen, I hope this kid gets a special day to make up for this 😑 #NewcastleUnited

@ToonToo87466111: Poor bairn ❤️ how did nobody realise theres a young girl in the middle of the pitch on her own, fair play to Liverpools photographer for making an attempt to guide her where to go, he could’ve walked her over to the bench but then again, he shouldn’t have needed to. Poor kid ❤️

@Im_RobM: I don’t know if it’s because #NUFC are doing my head in more than normal but this really boils my piss. Absolutely shite from Trippier and the club. Important that poor lass is brought back to be a mascot at home with Bruno at the very least.

@SterTrfc: Very poor from Newcastle. There has to be more done behind the scenes for young ones who find themselves not looked after properly at football matches

@Sanny_Rudra: This is poor from everyone. A duty of care from all involved has been completely missed.
