Newcastle United fans flock to ‘very childish’ club announcement

Newcastle United fans flock to what has been described as a ‘very childish’ club announcement with summer preparations being made.

The club’s Twitter account recently stated that the Magpies will be travelling to the Pirelli Stadium for a pre-season friendly against League One club Burton Albion on 30th July.

The game against the Brewers is their third pre-season fixture announced so far, with the North East outfit set to lock horns with York City and Harrogate Town on the same day earlier in the month.

A writer for MSN wrote: “The tweet about this information drew the attention of many Toon fans, who were making their anger clear about it.

“These Newcastle fans aren’t happy with the announcement and for some, it reminds them of the times when they were in the lower divisions of the English pyramid.

“As much as the fans might not like their club playing friendlies against an opposition from the lower divisions like York City, Harrogate and Burton, it would only help the players build their fitness up slowly and gradually. So perhaps, there is nothing to be frustrated about in this case.”

NUFC STATEMENT:

Newcastle United will face Burton Albion away from home in a pre-season friendly this summer, it has been confirmed.

The Magpies will travel to the Pirelli Stadium on Friday, 30th July, with kick-off set for 7:45pm.

It will be just the second time United have faced Burton away from home, with the first coming in the 2016/17 Championship-winning campaign, where goals from Dwight Gayle and Mo Diamé earned a 2-1 win.

They also faced each other at St. James’ Park that season, in a game best remembered for Matt Ritchie’s penalty being controversially ruled out by referee Keith Stroud. Ritchie’s subsequent winner sealed a 1-0 win on that occasion.

The game against Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s men, who secured safety in League One towards the end of last season, is the third pre-season fixture announced by Newcastle ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Steve Bruce’s side will face both York City and Harrogate Town on Sunday, 18th July, with the Magpies’ first team squad set to be split between the two fixtures.

Ticketing information for the trip to face the Brewers, along with the York and Harrogate friendlies, will be confirmed on the Premier League club’s website in due course, along with details of any further pre-season matches.

@davidpick1987: Hey @Grant_Pringle not adding the tag line “Enjoy Burton Away” is a massive failure on your part here.
