Newcastle and Sunderland slammed for treatment of fans during the cornavirus pandemic due to choosing not to give them a refund.
The Premier League season is set to resume in June, however it will be behind closed doors, meaning season ticket holders miss out getting their money back with just under 10 games remaining.
In League One, there is a concern whether the 2019/20 campaign is able to continue with majority of clubs expected to vote in ending the season now and potentially agreeing to the table being settled by PPG.
Since it emerged that Newcastle owner Mike Ashley that has agreed to sell to Amanda Staveley’s consortium, only for there to be no talks from those at the top to the supporters trust, meaning the fans have had no choice but to write to them and find out what is going on.
The letter states: “We understand the club finds itself in a complex situation. That does not give you a legitimate right to a dereliction of duty to your supporters.”
Will the takeover go ahead? If it false hope yet again? It certainly seems Mike Ashley doesn’t want to spend any extra cash.
Meanwhile down the road in Sunderland, they have offered supporters, many of whom have paid more than £300 for season tickets, a streaming pass for home games but there seems to be no consideration of partial or full refunds.
Editor of the Roker Report, Gav1879, says: “I feel disappointed and let down having read the club’s response to some valid concerns.
“The club’s owers are stretching the goodwill and patience of the fans to a perilously thin level.
“Who in their right mind would give them any money when it’s not guaranteed you will get a product?”
As mentioned, Newcastle and Sunderland have been slammed for their treatment of fans…

Are you really not getting refunded at all? That’s a joke that.

and that’s exactly why they deserve new owners

@rioferdy5 should we still be grateful to have him in charge of our club?

Took long enough but finally media outlets are starting to pick up on this.

I bet most fans at clubs would say keep the money to go towards club but If I was a Newcastle fan I’d definitely want my money back ?

We have had 5 monthly payments taken or in some cases the full amount. It’s not just about the money, it’s about the lack of discussion over these payments and potential refunds.

Sort of feel sorry for them

But then people will lose loyalty points they’ve accumulated, may not get their season tickets back when things return to normal. Some people are on the 10year price freeze. It’s not that simple

This is exactly why we want #ASHLEYOUT

Incoming refund in sports direct vouchers and a giant mug.

He’s taken FULL payment for next season from 1000s of fans too (us included). Some people pay by monthly DD, others pay up front, way ahead of when other clubs demand the money. 25 March – when it was obvious that next season wouldn’t start on time, or what it would look like.

This is just one reason why #AshleyOut has to happen. The #NUFCTakeover has to happen. 13 years of shit, lies, lack of investment etc. We want to be Newcastle United again not sports direct United like we have been for some time
