New special one-off Marine kit goes down a hit with fans

A brand new special one-off Marine kit goes down a hit with fans on social media ahead of their FA Cup game against Tottenham.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has took to his Twitter account to post a photo of himself wearing the special jersey ahead of the Crosby club’s clash with the Premier League in the FA Cup. 161 places separate them.

The former England international was sent a remixed version of the Mariners’ anniversary home kit, with both red and blue featuring on the sides of the black and gold top. However some fans hoped that this wouldn’t be the kit we’d see on our TV screens come the Sunday evening kick off.

Sponsored by Cravendale, the idea behind the one-off wearable is to unite the red and blue halves of Liverpool ahead of Marine’s big game against Spurs tonight – and we love it!

Carra wrote: Love it @MarineAFC @ArlaCravendale! One day only. Best of luck today, bring home the win for the city #ad #milkingit

Marine added: Hey @Carra23, as someone with ties to all three big Merseyside clubs we’re after your help! We’ve teamed up with @ArlaCravendale to unite the red and blue of Liverpool for one day only. A special one off jersey is on its way to you. And yes…we’re aware we’re milking it!

At the beginning of the month, an announcement from the club read: Marine FC announce that Liverpool Football Club legend Jamie Carragher has stepped in to sponsor the Marine FC dugouts & pre-match warm up tops, through his charity the JC23 Foundation.

Jamie, a Crosby resident, and a regular visitor to Marine over recent seasons, decided to help after a previous sponsor pulled out at the final moment.

The JC23 Foundation helps over 1,000 good causes each year including sick, disabled and disadvantaged children as well as other community organisations.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said: “We are indebted to Jamie and the JC23 Foundation for their support in this magical game for Marine. The JC23 Foundation do magnificent work in helping young people not just in Liverpool but right across the world. We are proud to partner with them on this special occasion.”

Mourinho’s Tottenham are planning to play a strong team with on-loan forward Gareth Bale has asking to play after recovering from a calf injury, but midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is out with a hamstring problem.

Northern Premier League outfit Marine have signed Clitheroe player-manager David Lynch in a 14-day deal and the 27-year-old midfielder is eligible to face Spurs.

The league rivals both say such a deal is unprecedented.

The Northern Premier League North West Division campaign is suspended so Clitheroe do not have any games at the moment and Lynch is not cup-tied.

Marine manager Neil Young: “I have done a lot of analysis with the help of Liverpool, who have given us some information in terms of the games.

“They have given us access to games that we can’t get access to. We see a lot of the Premier League games live but unless we record them we haven’t got the scouting networks or the software to go back and look at games.

“It’s a tight little ground, Spurs will come in off the road.

“They won’t be getting changed in the dressing room, they’ll be getting changed in the bar area. We normally get changed in there.”

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho: “I don’t think they want to play against Tottenham Under-23s, they want to play against the guys they are used to watching, admiring, used to following and we want to give them that.

“Myself and my staff, the respect is the way we are preparing the game and the same way we’re trying to know their striker, their centre-back, keeper, their tactical organisation. It’s the same we do with other opponents, of course of a different level.

“I feel very happy to play them and I understand the dream. It’s up to us to bring them back to reality, but I clearly understand the dream.”

Match stats

  • This will be Marine’s first FA Cup match against a top-flight opponent.
  • This will be Tottenham’s first FA Cup match against non-league opposition since January 1995, when they beat Altrincham 3-0 in a third-round tie.
  • This is just Marine’s second appearance in the FA Cup third round. They went out at this stage in 1992-93 against Crewe Alexandra.
  • Tottenham have progressed from 13 of their past 14 FA Cup third-round ties, with the exception being a 0-2 loss at Arsenal in 2013-14.
