The full WhatsApp message read: “Evening lads. We’ve been in the job now for just over 24 hours and the response we’ve had from players we know has been unbelievable.

“This has put me in a difficult position early on and we’ve decided as a club we’re going to have nobody back from the original squad this season.

“Now I know a lot weren’t coming back anyway and I’m not going to be a liked man and maybe wasn’t at all, but this is a decision we’ve taken and one we’re standing by.

“Wish you all the best in whatvever you do next.”

It was on Friday that Goodwin replaced Steve Wilson as manager with Kev Ward appointed as assistant manager. Goodwin was most recently assistant manager of non league side Ilkeston Town, but has managed at Peterborough Northern Star’s level (tier 9 of English football) in the past.

The club finished 14th in the United Counties Premier Division last season.
