New European Super League format proposal put to English clubs bound to cause more outrage as details are revealed this week.
According to the competition’s chief executive, a new, open European Super League could include up to 80 teams in a multidivisional format.
According to Bernd Reichart, chief executive of A22, the competition would be based solely on sporting performance and have no permanent members.
Reichart stated that teams would be guaranteed at least 14 matches per season.
A22, a company that was formed to sponsor and help with the creation the Super League, has consulted nearly 50 European clubs over the last year. Based on this consultation, it developed 10 principles which will guide its efforts for a new league.

Reichart says in a video: “Last October, we began an open dialogue on the future of European club football.
“Since then, we have spoken to nearly 50 European clubs and other stakeholders.
“The vast majority of them share the assessment that the very foundation of European football is under threat.
“It is time for change. European club football is at a tipping point.Huge imbalance have emerged across the continent and clubs with glorious European traditions are no longer able to compete.
“Clubs bear all entrepreneurial risks, but too often are forced to sit on the sidelines when key decisions are made.
“And they are watching their sporting and financial foundations crumble. And our discussions have made clear clubs are often unable to publicly speak up against a system where the threat of sanctions is used to stifle opposition.
“Later this year, the Court of justice of the European Union will rule on the legality and the compatibility of the UEFA monopoly with the fundamental freedoms, principles and values of the EU.
“Their decision will impact not only football, but all European sports. Our objective is to present a sustainable sporting project for European club competitions, available at a minimum to all 27 EU member states.
“Today we present the preliminary results of the first phase of our dialogue, which has been honest, direct and constructive.
“And there are clear conclusions about the need for change and the building blocks of how to achieve it.
“We have distilled the consistent feedback into ten principles which should set the framework for a future European club competition.
“Clearly, there is more work to be done and the dialogue will continue.
“We are now entering the decisive phase for the future governance of European club football.”

The original plans for the European Super League in 2021 consisted of 20 teams – the 12 founding members plus the three unnamed sides they expected to join later – along with five clubs who would have qualified annually based on their domestic achievements.
According to Reichart, the new ESL would contain up to 80 teams, who would be guaranteed a minimum 14 matches per season.
In December, Uefa and Fifa received significant backing in their bid to block the creation of a European Super League, and a report issued by the European Court of Justice, its advocate general said the rules of football’s European and world governing bodies were “compatible with EU competition law”.
It had been claimed Uefa and Fifa were breaking competition law by threatening to sanction clubs and players who joined a breakaway league.
This is what fans had to say with a new European Super League format proposal put to English clubs – bound to cause more outrage…
@savegrassroots: Is this why Government have delayed publication of their white paper on the reform of football ??
@GoonerGathering: Oh here we go againâŠâŠ
@everysongsung: I have a better idea. How about each country has its own multi-divisional super league consisting of 80-90 teams over 3 or 4 leagues, and then the best teams from the top league play against the top teams from the other European top leagues in a couple of special competitions.
@leathemsaan1892: Uefa have already effectively made one with the new champions league format leaving a get out for the big clubs to qualify if they have a bad league campaign based on historical performance
@mattywazza: Let it happen to kick all the teams who joined at first and give them a points deduction with -30 points
@MNCTed: âFootball is under threatâ I think they meant to say âWe arenât the best anymore so letâs do something where we are the bestâ
@OgbonnaFerdina2: City will be smiling at premier league now
@WamKnowsBall: The new champions league format isnât even structurally different. Canât wait for uefa to play the moral high ground card again
@Sorted_UTD: That’s even worse
@chris_roberts96: So like the champions league europa league and conference league then đđđ
@joeythorpe96: If the European Super League happens I wonât watch Football anymore. The game will be dead.
@CFC_Mase_19: Canât wait to hear @GNev2 thoughts on the fresh plans for the European Super League đđż
@dlpsmith7: Not talks about creating a European super league again đ€Șđ€Ș Football is perfect the way it is. Leave it alone.
@manutdirishreds: Are they slow or what. The fans have already spoke on this we do not want a super league. The premier league is the best league in the world and the rest of Europe are jealous of the success from English teams. Madrid and Barcelona are the ones pushing for it and we donât want it
@VSG_Beacon: What if…. and hear me out here. Each country had it’s own multi-tier open league structure đČ
@asj1357: This is partly the leagues fault, pumped so much money into it due to extortionate tv rights other European clubs want some of it. Didnât even show the biggest protest of the lot, with the biggest impact.
@BarneyLUFC21: Whatâs become evident is itâs European clubs driving this not necessarily PL clubs. The money that has been spent in this window by PL clubs has been more than some leagueâs in total. Clubs like Barcelona/AC Milan simply canât compete anymore
@TeessideCommie1: Yet another attack on the EPL and the EFL. This is why an independent regulator is being brought in. To basically make it impossible for them to leave and join anything like this.
@DominicR26: Boot the clubs out of their domestic leagues and the champions league. Ban their players from international tournaments and let them go ahead with it at this point. Broke, greedy tossers
@lukeCFC25: So itâs the entitled teams that canât accept that theyâre not good enough any more to win the Champions league that want to create a cartel so they can buy their way back to the top? If English clubs support this, relegate them as well, thatâll sort their entitlement out.
@jamesl_44: Not even bothered anymore. Get rid of the top 4, let them chase money, and let everyone else play in a level playing league. Let 4 clubs into the football league from non league.
@heyimjoeee: The prestige and pride of reaching and competing in classic European football in the champions league isnât enough for clubs anymore. They want a bigger chunk of the pie and thatâs all it comes down to. The game is well and truly dying
@SamualT3wl3y:
Just Fuck Off now with all this BollocksâŠ
Champions League
UEFA Cup
Cup Winners Cup
Thatâs what real football fans want.
Greed & Corruption getting worse & worse
