Neil Warnock gives amusing reaction after extending his stay at Huddersfield

Neil Warnock gives an amusing reaction after extending his stay at Huddersfield Town for another year having kept the club up last season.

The 74 year old came out of retirement back in February to rejoin the club until the end of the campaign with the Terriers sitting 23rd in the Championship table at the time of his arrival.

But they managed to win seven of their 15 games under Warnock, which led to them finishing 18th – nine points off the drop zone.

CLUB STATEMENT:

Neil Warnock and Ronnie Jepson stay on at Huddersfield Town

– Neil Warnock agrees one-year contract to manage Town
– Ronnie Jepson also returns as Assistant Manager
– Comments from Chief Executive Jake Edwards

We’re delighted to announce that Manager Neil Warnock and Assistant Manager Ronnie Jepson will stay at the Club for the 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season!

Fresh from their amazing feat of reviving the team to secure our second-tier status in the 2022/23 campaign, Warnock and Jepson have agreed new 12-month contracts to lead the Club into the new season.

The popular duo have already secured their spots in Club history as staff and, in Ronnie’s case, also as a player in the mid-nineties, with their legacies further cemented by the job they did in steering the team to survival with seven wins and four draws in 16 Sky Bet Championship fixtures earlier this year.

Chief Executive Jake Edwards explained:

β€œWe’ve heard Town fans loud and clear, both at the Reading game and ever since. You all wanted β€˜one more year’ under Neil and Ronnie, and this had to be our first order of business as we prepare for the new season.

β€œNeil and Ronnie have incredible knowledge and skill as a management team; that was clear in the job they achieved here at the end of last season. They also have an amazing connection with this Club and our supporters, which is also so valuable.

β€œWe’re so pleased Neil has agreed to stay on for another season. I know how determined he is to build on the job he’s done last season, and he offers us great experience and stability on the football side as we prepare for the prospective change of ownership.”

Huddersfield Town Manager Neil Warnock added:

β€œAfter having conversations with Jake Edwards, it became obvious that this was going to be a difficult job for me to leave and for anybody new to come into after what we’d built at the end of last season.

β€œI’ve agreed to stay on alongside Ronnie and just as we did when we came back last February, we’re going to try and do the best we can with our squad that we can hopefully make one or two additions to.

β€œWe’re quietly confident – I know what the Club is all about and I have to say, the response I got after those last two games is something I’ve never experienced in my whole life. This is now a chance for me to put something back into the Club and give us some stability during this transitional period.

β€œOnce I knew that Sharon was okay with me continuing, I’ve been fully concentrating on knuckling down to do the best we can in trying to get this great Club up the league.”

Neil Warnock will take his Huddersfield Town First Team on tour in July

With the appointment of Neil Warnock and Ronnie Jepson now announced, we are delighted to confirm details of our 2023/24 pre-season tour to Cornwall and Devon!

All three matches will be available to attend, with full ticket information to follow in due course!

Promising to be a fantastic trip, the tour allows Neil Warnock, Ronnie Jepson and the remainder of our First Team staff an opportunity to work uninterrupted with the players ahead of the 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship season, whilst putting ideas from the training ground into practice against three local non-league opponents.

Full coverage of the tour will feature across htafc.com and all of our social media channels, with Terriers planning on joining us on the road able to pencil in the following dates:

Monday 10 July 2023 β€“ vs Bodmin Town (A) 7pm
Wednesday 12 July 2023 β€“ vs Tavistock AFC (A) 7pm
Saturday 15 July 2023 β€“ vs Liskeard Athletic (A) 1pm

Commenting on the tour, Town Manager Neil Warnock said:

β€œThis pre-season tour is one I’ve made with all of my successful sides in the past. It gets all of the lads together at a great time in a wonderful environment.

β€œWe’ll be playing local teams, and I know supporters will always come down in numbers and have enjoyed meeting the players after games, getting their autographs and photos, and there will be plenty of opportunities for that.

β€œThe most important thing though is that it’s a good week for me to get to know everybody again and plan for the season ahead.”
