National League Playoff Final set after another semi final tie with goals galore

The 2022 National League Playoff Final is now set after what has been another semi final tie with goals galore you could say.

Chesterfield beat FC Halifax Town earlier in the week to reach the semi-finals while Solihull earned a home tie and place in semi-finals after finishing third in the National League.

The game between Solihull and Chesterfield had quite a lot to live up to after Wrexham were defeated 5-4 against Grimsby Town after extra time on Saturday.

Grimsby Town secured another dramatic extra time win to cause a huge blow to Wrexham’s hopes of finally getting promoted from the National League.

Paul Mullin’s penalty gave Wrexham the lead but John McAtee levelled, only for Luke Waterfall to put Grimsby ahead.

Ben Tozer and Mullin made it 3-2, before Ryan Taylor and Mani Dieseruvwe restored Grimsby’s advantage, but Jordan Davies equalised to make it 4-4 and take it into extra time.

Waterfall netted a 119th-winner for Grimsby, who had beaten Notts County in extra-time in the play-off eliminator in midweek. See more on the first semi final tie HERE.

So how did this game at Damson Park play out then? Take a look for yourself below…

6‘ | CHANCE FOR MOORS! Barnett teases his man down the right and chips a cross right onto the head of Hudlin, but Loach is there to deny the big man!

8‘ | GOAL! Chesterfield break the deadlock as Quigley sweeps home from the cut-back. 0-1

10‘ | So close to an immediate equaliser. Intricate play from Barnett and Maycock before the strike from the latter is deflected onto the boot of Dallas and onto the roof of the net.

13‘ | McDonnell has to get down low to save Khan’s effort before the Moors clear.

15‘ | GOAL! Moors are back in the game as Maycock plays in Dallas who dinks the ball over the top of Loach to level! 1-1.

18‘ | Huge chance for Moors to take the lead as Hudlin latches onto the ball over the top before dragging his eventual effort wide.

30‘ | Hudlin gets on the end of a Boyes free-kick, but his header is into the gloves of Loach.

35‘ | GOAL! The short corner causes havoc in the centre and Alex Gudger is there to pounce from a few yards out! 2-1 Solihull.

43‘ | Sbarra’s curling effort from outside the area doesn’t quite dip in time as the ball sails over.

44‘ | Clarke hacks away off the line to prevent a Chesterfield equaliser!

53‘ | Good hands from McDonnell who does well to hold a long-range Kellermann strike.

58‘ | Sharp save from McDonnell who bats away Miller’s fierce attempt on goal!

59’ | WHAT A SAVE! Straight up the other end Loach makes a great save to deny Hudlin who was also sent through on goal. Great stop from Loach.

60‘ | GOAL! And there is the hosts’ third as Boyes’ corner is met by the towering head of Callum Howe and the ball drops into the far corner of the net! 3-1 Solihull.

This afternoon’s attendance is a RECORD CROWD of 4,026 (600 away).

72‘ | Boyes is shown a yellow card for taking too long with the throw.

73‘ | Newton is in behind and looks to lob it over Loach, but the Spireites keeper makes himself big to save.

83‘ | McDonnell is booked for taking too long with the goal kick.

85’ | So close for Chesterfield. Miller fires an effort towards the top corner from the edge of the area which is brilliantly saved by the keeper.

Solihull Moors will take on Grimsby Town a week today with a decent attendance expected inside West Ham United’s London Stadium.
