National League North outright title winner odds revealed for 2023/24

The National League North outright title winner odds have been revealed for the 2023/24 season now that fixtures are out.

Preparations for the division’s 24 teams are now in full swing with pre-season friendlies getting underway, new shirts being revealed and new signings being brought in.

Scunthorpe drop into the sixth tier having been relegated from the National League, while they will also face those coming up in Bishop’s Stortford, South Shields, Warrington Town, Tamworth and Rushall Olympic

The 2023–24 National League season, known as the Vanarama National League for sponsorship reasons, will be the ninth season under English football’s new title of the National League, the 21st season consisting of three divisions, and the 45th season overall.

Last season saw the expansion of North and South divisions to 24 teams apiece, a planned increase which was originally scheduled in 2019. However, after the curtailment and voidance of the 2020–21 season for both North and South, promotion and relegation were postponed. For those reasons, the implementation of expansion plans was delayed until 2022–23.

Scunthorpe United manager Jimmy Dean offered an apology to supporters for the way the 2022/23 season ended which saw the team unable to fight against a second consecutive relegation.

Dean said: “I promise it will get better and it will. The club can’t go any lower and we have to build it back now. There are good people out there and I’m gutted for them. I’m embarrassed for me and the players with how it’s gone since Torquay. When I said the performance was a disgrace I hoped to get a reaction but it’s gone the wrong way. One more to go and then hopefully I get a chance to build something that’s special. I’m looking forward to it.

“I’m sorry for the part I’ve played in this. I felt like it was getting somewhere after nine games, and if we’d nicked it against York it might have been different. Since then it’s been unacceptable. I’m the manager and I’m responsible for that. It’s a promise that it will be better next season and we will be winning games.

“Thanks to the fans as well for the positivity and for not being too harsh on us when they could have been. There’s an understanding that it has been difficult but trust me that it will be better. Every conversation I’ve had about next year has been positive. I won’t let performances like this stand long term, and what me and the club do next will represent that.”

The National League North title favourites’ goalkeeper Ross Fitzsimons gave insight on how he’s found his first two weeks at the Iron.

“I was sold on the project and the ambitions of the club. Obviously the club hasn’t been in the best condition recently but hopefully now we can help the club progress back to the promise land of the football league.

When asked what his both personal goals and what the teams’ goals were for the coming season he continued: “The aim for me personally is to play as many games as I can and as a team’s it’s to win the division. It’s quite obvious we are the biggest team in this league and hopefully we can get straight back to the National league.

“Pre-season has been really good. It’s an incredible set up here in terms of day-to-day training and the standard is really good from both the lads that have come in and the lads that were already here last season, so it’s been brilliant, and I’ve enjoyed every minute so far.”
