National League, North and South maximum capacities for each tier of restrictions

Fans are finally allowed back in stadiums so we listed National League, North and South maximum capacities for each tier of restrictions.

The National League is already distributing the government’s £10m support package on an average attendance basis, meaning seven former Football League clubs will receive a larger sum.

National League games are currently being played behind closed doors. The first payments of National Lottery funds is scheduled for next week.

The government made a positive speech about the new stricter three tier lockdown system, however was desperate to also have fans back in grounds.

To clarify and as confirmed by Boris – Tier 1: 4,000 outdoors/2,000 indoors – Tier 2: 2,000 outdoors/1,000 indoors – Tier 3: Ban on spectators remains.

The ban on outdoor grassroots sport is also set to be lifted in all tiers, following calls for this restriction to be eased.

“In tiers one and two, spectator sports and business events will be free to resume inside and outside with capacity limits and social distancing,” said Boris Johnson.

“Later this week, we will announce which areas will fall into which tier – I hope on Thursday – based on analysis of cases in all age groups, especially the over-60s.

“Also, [it will involve] looking at the rate at which cases are rising or falling, the percentage of those tested in a local population who have Covid and current and projected pressures on the NHS.”

Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden said: “This is a big step forward for sport.

“Bringing grassroots sport back was my number one priority, so I’m pleased we are reopening sports and gyms in every tier, in recognition of the significant health benefits.

“I’m also delighted we are able to get the turnstiles turning sooner than expected, taking a cautious approach and starting with the lowest-risk areas first.

“I’m confident that sports will take every step to ensure their fans are safe and fans will play their part and look out for each other until we can safely get everyone back in.”

“Fans have always felt football should be treated the same as other sectors,” said a Football Supporters’ Association statement.

“We welcome today’s announcement, which does suggest that will be the case, and we look forward to seeing further details.

“For many lower-league and non-league clubs in particular, getting paying fans into stadiums safely is absolutely critical to their survival during a very difficult season.

“Clubs, leagues and the Sports Ground Safety Authority have worked hard to put in procedures to make stadiums safe places and we hope this is the first step on the road back to normality.”

Darlington’s chief executive David Johnston has urged professional neighbours to help non league clubs maximise gate receipts in the coronavirus era.

The Quakers look set to return to the arena after getting the green light from the National League.

The club previously played at the Arena from 2003 until 2012 when it became fan-owned after it was placed into administration by its previous owner, and for financial reasons left for Bishop Auckland.

After being forcibly relegated to step 5 of the national non-league system by the FA, the club has won three promotions, and the fans have raised over £1.5 million in eight years to finance the club and pay for infrastructure.

Now you have seen National League, North and South maximum capacities for each tier of restrictions, what do you make of it. Feel free to correct anything we’ve got incorrect.
