It was a much needed win for Birmingham after beating Coventry 3-2 to ease pressure on Chris Davies and his position at the club.
Ducksch puts the hosts ahead with a superb volley just six minutes in, only for Eccles to have Coventry level from 25 yards two minutes later.
Koumas slotted in second for Birmingham on 17 minutes, then Simms got Coventry level again midway through the second half. Ducksch had Birmingham ahead for a third time in the game on 63 minutes.
A minimum of eight minutes was added on, setting up for a tense finish, as those inside St Andrew’s fell silent and Coventry felt they had a chance to come from behind again.
But they were unable to do so, and it wasn’t helped when Bobby Thomas got in a tangle with Phil Neumann and then raised a hand to his face. Three games for a straight red.
Coventry are now winless in three, and just two wins from eight, but still nine points ahead of 3rd place Middlesbrough before the 3pm kick offs. Birmingham climb up to 13th, and 6 points points from the playoff places.
Bobby Thomas red 🟥
Quite the headloss here. Also, quite the theatrics from Phil Neumann.

Birmingham boss Chris Davies told BBC Radio WM:
“I thought we were really strong today against the league leaders. Nobody gave us a chance today and I thought the boys were fantastic.
“I think they had to show all sorts of sides to themselves. Moments of quality, good goals, run hard, battle, tackle, head, everything.”
On two-goal hero Marvin Ducksch: “We know Marvin’s got the quality and I think he was really good. He enjoyed it today.
“He moved well and tried to combine and then a fantastic finish for his first goal. When they come over like that, you can easily go safe on those, but he went hard and it went in.”
Coventry boss Frank Lampard told BBC Radio CWR:
“The game, we should deal with. I always credit opposition and when Ipswich came to our place, they were at it, we were off it and they won the game.
“But this was on us because the game was there for us. The run of results they [Blues] have had, I think you could see that it was there for us to take control.
“We had a lot of the ball, but we had a lack of urgency in how we moved it, so we have to take that one. The goals we conceded were poor goals.”
On Bobby Thomas’ red card: “I haven’t seen it, but if he’s done something and gets a red card, then we miss him for three games. And if he did do something, he shouldn’t have done it.”
Birmingham’s Lewis Koumas speaking to Sky Sports:
“It was good. Good to get a start. Really happy we’ve managed to get the win today.”
On his goal: “Great vision from Pat [Roberts]. I just tried to stay calm to finish it off and I did. So happy.
“We’ve been training hard, working hard. We trust the gaffer and he’s got the win for us today, helping us come into the game ready.”
Birmingham debutant Kai Wagner speaking to Sky Sports:
“I was joking before the game a little bit with Marvin [Ducksch] to be in the right spot, just give me the ball.
“He said just give me a one touch finish, so really excited. One training session that’s it, but I don’t need a lot. I know what I can do. Really proud today.”
Here’s how fans reacted to the much needed win for Birmingham after beating Coventry 3-2 to ease pressure on Chris Davies…
@lennonkian_: What a ridiculous game of football. Very impressive debut performance by Kai Wagner. Ducksch back amongst the goals with some superb finishes. Much needed win against the league leaders which was only their 4th loss of the season. Let’s hope we can build on this performance #bcfc
@ToweringZigic: It hasn’t worked for him here, but on a human level I’m pleased Koumas got that moment. Great goal too. Wagner looks incredibly promising too. On the whole, everybody really dug in today I thought. Cov are a powerhouse of a team and any win against them is absolutely superb #BCFC
@ToweringZigic: Superb attacking in the first half, and superb defending in the second. CD takes a lot of pelters, but Cov really struggled to open us up after the tactical change IMO. A really galvanising win for the whole club – it feels like we’ve needed that for weeks #BCFC
@RobPUSB: 8th game of awful football and just as bad results. Lampard has no plan B and these players are shot of confidence. Defence a joke today. Doug you need to put your hand in your pocket. You’re having us fans on you tight cunt.
@jmilbs94: Got to sort these fucking performances out, Birmingham are a poor side we can’t be losing games like this
@bcfcmaim: worst team ever seen at st andrews thanks for the 3 points see ya fucking later
@cov_t0: I don’t understand… I’m going insane. Every game when we’re in attack we do fuck all with the ball, when we’re defending we invite the opposition into empty space. What the fuck has happened??? We weren’t playing like this a month ago. Bottling it again ole ole if we continue.
@CharPUSB: Was always going to be a blip at some point this season. We’re in the middle of it. What doesn’t help is Bobby’s stupidity. Jan signings can’t come quickly enough, gotta back to winning ways against Leicester
@randomitfcfan: We started your downfall, your actually going to bottle it 🤣🤣
@PUSB_PUSB: Takes off the only one trying. Brings on Andrews. Keeps on Rudoni stinking the gaff out. Lampard favouritism is going to cost us.
@ScottWeymouth: It’s not all doom and gloom, but the January transfer window has definitely come at the right time for us because we need reinforcements. We are wobbling, there’s no doubt about it, but a couple of signings to boost the squad and we can get back on track quickly. #PUSB
