Moussa Sissoko files complaint against The Sun over article claiming he was taken to court

Moussa Sissoko files a complaint against The Sun over an article they had wrote claiming that he was taken to court recently.

The former Newcastle, Watford and Tottenham player Moussa Sissoko has denied reports that he is being chased for more than £60,000 after being accused of failing to pay his energy bill at his £3million flat in Mayfair.

The 33-year-old, who recently moved back to France to play for Nantes, has insisted a report by the publisher is a case of mistaken identity.

It was alleged that Yu Energy pursued Sissoko in the County Court Business Centre over an unpaid bill worth as mjuch as £61,700.

Sissoko has since refuted the allegations on Twitter, insisting it is ‘a matter that doesn’t concern me’.

He said: ‘@TheSun you used my name and image for a matter that doesn’t concern me. You have not verified your information and this is causing personal harm to me and my family.

‘Because of a namesake you sold paper on my back? Ok, I am filing a complaint against you and justice will do its job. You don’t smear people with impunity just to create buzz. Next time you’ll do your job better as a pseudo scandalous journalist.’

Sissoko signed for Nantes in the summer for a fee of around £1million, ending a nine year stay on English soil following his first move to Newcastle United back in 2013.

His spell at Watford didn’t last that long, after deciding to leave at the end of a season which ended in relegation from the Premier League after just one season.

He joined the Hornets in the summer of 2021 and went on to make 36 Premier League appearances last season, finding the net twice.

Sissoko has featured in 11 matches in all competitions, including Ligue 1 and Europa League matches since his switch this summer.

It also comes just days after Inter Milan striker Romelu Lukaku called out The Sun for false accusations. The newspaper featured an online article claiming that Lukaku was “spotted smoking e-cigarette.”

He quickly denied the rumours on his Instagram account, saying “The Sun Newspaper… you guys are messing with the wrong one… Keep F*cking playing… My people will contact you very soon.”

“You guys are lame as f*ck for posting a picture that ain’t me and posting the wrong info,” the player rebutted.

The Sun deleted their tweet to the article and apologised to Lukaku. But the damage has already been done to the tabloid and its journalist Giacomo Pisa for his racist remarks.

The article also accused Lukaku of being in poor shape. The 29-year-old just returned to training yesterday about dealing with a lingering injury from August 28th.
