Morecambe fans have been urged to boycott and stop financial contributions until owner Jason Whittingham departs the club.
Morecambe fans group 1920 Union who have previously held protests and displayed many banners in protest, have launched new a campaign, called ‘Not A Penny More: Cut The Head Off The Snake’.
They claim that it ‘follows years of mismanagement, neglect and financial instability under Whittingham’s ownership’, with fans now told to opt of of renewing season tickets, to not purchase home match tickets or spend money in the club shop or on matchdays from the 2025/26 season.

This response is greatly appreciated. As the statement says we really don’t want have to boycott and want to be told by the board there is an alternative. We will take your response into consideration, thank you for all your hard work so far 🦐

STATEMENT FROM 1920 UNION:
“Our club stands at a crossroads. For too long, we have watched Jason Whittingham mismanage and neglect Morecambe FE, with no respect For the fans who are the true lifeblood of the club. Enough is enough.
“We are not outsiders looking in. Every supporter within 19213Union has been attending matches for well over a decade, some for over 25 years. We have all backed this club through thick and thin, but we cannot, and will not, continue to Fund its decline under an owner who shows no interest in our stability, let alone our growth.
“This is why we are launching the Not R Penny More: Cut The Head Off The Snake campaign. Our message is simple: following the conclusion of the 2024/25 Season, do not renew your season tickets, do not buy home match tickets, do not spend a single penny in the club shop or inside the ground until Jason Whittingham is gone. Every pound withheld is a statement—we refuse to bankroll Jason Whittingham any longer.
“Morecambe FC is more than just a club; it is the beating heart of the community. IF the club were to collapse at the hands of Jason Whittingham, we would not only lose our team, but we would also lose the incredible work done by Morecambe FE Community Sports, including initiatives such as the veterans’ coffee mornings, walking football, live entertainment at Jas, Junior Reds, The Shrimpettes, support for local Sunday league teams, and a fantastic venue used for events that provide support and human connection for so many. These are lifelines for those who rely on the club for social inclusion and community engagement. The longer Jason Whittingham remains at the club, the greater the risk to everything that makes Morecambe FC special.
“If the board of directors disagrees with this campaign, we call on them to provide a compelling reason not to proceed. Show us a clear plan For the future. Give us genuine assurances that everything is being done to enact change, to force Jason Whittingham out, and to deter the seemingly worse potential owners. We are told that so much happens behind the scenes, and while we sincerely appreciate the tireless work done by so many for this club, time is running out.
“This is not about turning our backs on the players who have given everything, and whom we will continue to support at away matches for the 2S/25 season and beyond. It is about ensuring our club has a future where we can compete, under ownership that values ambition and integrity.
“We wholeheartedly hate to withhold our own money from the club we have grown up loving, let alone encourage others to do so. However, we cannot continue to allow Jason Whittingham to profit from our misfortune.
“We suffer while he profits.
“WHY BOYCOTT? WON’T THIS JUST MRKE
“THE CLUB WORSE OFF?
“Jason Whittingham secures bank loans through Bond Group Investments. He then loans this money to Morecambe FC, charging a high interest rate. The club cannot afford to pay the interest in cash, so instead, the interest is rolled into the growing debt balance. This causes the club’s debt to Bond Group Investments to increase year after year. Whittingham’s exit strategy is to sell the club at a price that includes these inflated debts, ensuring he profits while leaving Morecambe FE burdened. This was made clear by the Shrimps Trust, who released a very clear, detailed, and easy-to-understand summary of the accounts on 03/03/26.
“The longer Jason Whittingham remains in charge, the more the club becomes saddled with growing debt, which he will only add to with his rumored, exorbitant asking price, making a sale more difficult as time goes on.
Football is a business, and businesses do not survive without revenue. By cutting off the club’s income streams, we apply Financial pressure that Forces Jason Whittingham to act.
• If ticket and matchday sales drop, revenue decreases, and the club will struggle to generate cash Flow. • With no money coming in, Jason Whittingham will not be Forced to inject more Funds to keep the club running.
• If he cannot keep inflating the club’s debt, it weakens his ability to sell For a profit, Forcing him to sell quickly.
Until our club is sold – NOT A PENNY MORE.
Morecambe boss Derek Adams said in the interview above – “Who do you sell [the club] to? Have they got the money to take us forward? It needs a multimillionaire to come in. It’s not a millionaire you need. It’s a multimillionaire. We’ve got the lowest budget in the league. Think about it.”
Have a watch of it in full!
This is how Twitter users reacted with Morecambe fans urged to boycott financial contributions until owner Jason Whittingham departs…
@HrDesert: Feel like this is the only way to go now, fair play. Hope it works.
@GazPar81: My Dad first took me to watch Morecambe when i was 2 years old. I took both my sons to watch their first games at the same age. I have followed this club from the HFS Loans league to L1 and it is everything to me. I will not be renewing my season ticket or attending nxt season.
@jamiekay1613: Next logical step for us unfortunately it’s come to this. Time to go Jason.
@jamesdickson906: Shame it’s come to this, but I think it’s the correct decision, we sat back and let it happen for far too long, this could be too late still who knows but something needed to happen! People will be against it course they will but those people don’t have a plan on what to do?
@JakeEnglish_: Becoming more and more difficult to see NAPM as anything but the only real option left for us as fans now. The club will not survive if things continue as they are. As hard as it will be, it’ll just be away games for me next season until Jason has gone.
@Bobby_Brown43: After 15 years of being a season ticket holder, I will be taking part in the boycott. I’ve put so much money behind the bar and club shop this season, more than I’ve ever spent, it stops till Jason is gone. Opportunity for the BOD to give an argument for me to reconsider open.
@mickeymfc: Gutting that it has come to this. 10 years being a season ticket holder, barely missing a home game etc. But got to do whatever it takes to get that spineless rat out of our football club once and for all. NAPM until Jason has gone 👍🏻
@DBuckleJourno: No more sitting idly by while our football club dies. I’ve going for over a decade, and no one wants to do this, but Jason Whittingham has left the fans with no other choice #Jasonout
@ScottCarter97: Following Morecambe for over 20 years but if missing home games gets that rat out of our club then I’m willing to make the sacrifice #EnoughIsEnough #JasonOut
@RedshawKevin: Well done. This is an excellent idea. He is only here for the money, so cutting off all sources of income will starve the parasite
@rooobellis: Would you guys consider something more like “not a penny extra” where season tickets are acceptable but no further spend? ST are huge part of keeping the club alive over summer and helping the manager even build a team. I understand something needs to be done though.
@so69fangroup: Sorry to stick our noses in; one thing we have considered both with our current mob (but parked for now) and the previous owner is a pledge system; create a way for fans who choose not to renew to make a pledge publicly that they will do so when the club is sold.
@csscallum: For me, that would defeat the purpose of it. Not renewing season tickets would send a very loud message, rather quickly, if early bird season tickets are announced this month. Also, STs are on sale for months. Plenty of time for Jason to sell the club and for fans to buy later
@rooobellis: Yep fair enough, makes a lot of sense. Just felt the one thing that could cause a lot of direct damage is the missing cash flow from those tickets.
@csscallum: I’ve seen this argument, “the damage it could cause”, quite a bit. I’d argue the club is damaged almost beyond repair with all the ownership issues we’ve had. IMO it would be incredibly unfair for fans to be accused of hurting the club if they decide not to spend their own money
@rooobellis: Oh gosh yeah sorry that wasn’t my insinuation at all. I’m actually behind something along these lines that we need something more dramatic. Just a general thought of how much ST sales matter at a critical point in the season really.
