More names in the frame for Millwall head coach job revealed after Neil Harris’ exit

More names in the frame for the currently vacant Millwall head coach job has been revealed after Neil Harris‘ exit from the club.

He announced that he would be stepping down from his role after the game against Middlesbrough this weekend, with that game playing out to a 1-0 defeat after Emmanuel Latte Lath sent Middlesbrough back into the Championship playoff places.

The Lions’ winless run stretched to six games, and in the last few days, various names have emerged as potential contenders for the job.

Dan Marsh of the Mirror said on Sunday (15th December): “Steven Schumacher is one of the names in the frame for the #Millwall job. Lions are keen to speak with him and Wycombe boss Matt Bloomfield in their search for Neil Harris’ successor.”

Steven Schumacher, currently out of work since he was dismissed from Stoke City in September, is recognised as one of the most promising young managers in the EFL and is reportedly on Millwall’s list of cnadidates.

Wycombe’s Matt Bloomfield, has impressed having received the accolade of League One’s manager of the month for November and guided the Chairboys to the top of the table, benefiting from an impressive unbeaten streak of 17 matches.

Millwall are also said to be expected to consult with several candidates before determining their future course with Michael Skubala of Lincoln City and Dave Challinor of Stockport County also being looked as, while Alex Neil also could be considered for discussions.

Twitter users gave their reaction as more names in the frame for the Millwall head coach job are revealed after Neil Harris’ exit…

@DiggaLawrence25: These are the sort of candidates we are looking at 🤦🏻‍♂️ how is this an upgrade from what we have had before

@mattjoyy: Backwards steps

@LewisB120: Aim higher for God sake.

@L_mfc_1885: NO!

@Nickmillwall89: Going for cheap options as per 🙄

@anthony119: No no no no no

@MichaelJ5_:
Schuey – Did well at argyle. Struggled with Stoke.
Bloomfield – Flying with Wycombe right now
Genuinely no idea who I want to take over right now

@JayThomas89: Interesting. Schumacher played a 3421 a lot at Plymouth done wonders with very little. But was a manager. Didn’t work out as a HC at Stoke but then again no one works out at Stoke so. #Millwall

@jogabonlta: I’d actually take him tbh. Did well at Plymouth and literally no one does well at Stoke. Sort of manager that would do well here

@Greatest1343329: @ChatwithChaps89 @RobM661 I actually quite like this. Schumacher is attacking and got Plymouth scoring plenty. Matt is also doing a superb job transitioning Wycombe into a really good side in league 1. He has taken over a very direct team and got them playing some nice football.

@ChatwithChaps89: Agreed mate – I am comfortable with these two, not sure what people expect! They are also both “coaches” what is key in terms of what the club is looking for

@Greatest1343329: Agreed with our budget I would never expect O’Neil, Steve Cooper and Jose Mourinho! Schumacher did a great job at Plymouth 100 points in league 1. Home form was excellent in the championship too,they looked good on the front foot. Both young coaches with room to grow in the game.

@DMLions: Fuck me that’s not the news story you wana be reading. Unproven league 1 managers at best. Edwards didn’t go well so shocked we are looking at these. Surely yes lads who gallen can direct

@Danny_Watts99: The names at the end of the article were even worse 😂

@TommyMFC1: Are either really an upgrade on NH?

@sbmc6695: Out of Lowe, Schumacher or Bloomfield give me Bloomfield can’t have a scouser manage Millwall please

@HPackham17: Personally, this doesn’t move me as both are unproven in the championship and that’s what we need right now as well as a history of youth development. Robins or Mowbray would work but they simply may not be interested.

@Venom_MFC: Schumacher can do one 😂

@philclarke0170: Interesting development ⬇️ Both have extensive playing careers, Schumacher ahead with mgt experience & critically has managed in championship but he is a scouser which will not appeal to everyone. They both feel like Edwards but more rounded out candidates. No idea of their playing styles which may be an important factor.
