MK Dons gives playful response back to Roy Keane’s ‘who do you think you are’ rant

MK Dons gives an playful response back to Roy Keane’s ‘who do you think you are’ rant with their tweet doing the rounds online.

Keane expressed his frustration during a recent episode of the Stick to Football podcast, where he was particularly irked by MK Dons’ decision to play from the back while losing 1-0 against Salford City.

“[You see] 19 passes,” Keane said, sounding more Irish the more irate he became, leaving Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher in hysterics.

Roy continued: “MK Dons. Who do you think you are?! Get it forward. It’s as if they don’t know what the score is!”

But MK Dons stuck to their principles at the weekend with Mike Williamson’s side winning 1-0 against Walsall in League Two on Saturday.

The only goal of the game saw Callum Hendry converting from a cross in the 18th minute, leading to the MK Dons social media admin getting all cheeky.

They posted a video of a move which started at the back with goalkeeper Tom McGill, with the sound of Roy Keane’s rant playing over it.

Their tweet was captioned: “Playing out from the back.”

Roy Keane was prepared to ‘hang around the dressing room’ and confront MK Dons keeper

MK Dons boss Williamson gave praise to keeper McGill in his post-match interview: Tom’s made some big saves for us this season, and gives everyone confidence.

“You can see his distribution, and other areas of his game, but we needed him today. We showed a lot of grit and determination to keep the ball out of the net.

“Everyone was desperate for the clean sheet. We wanted a reaction, and needed to win the battle. Coming into the final five minutes, and with eight minutes added on, we saw it through which shows good character. At 1-0 up on the run we’re on, against a team who have a lot of physical players who can hurt us, we needed a bit more composure. It was a relief to get the result.”

MK Dons: McGill, Gilbey (C), Kelly (Williams 81), Tomlinson, Nemane (Wearne 59), Offord, Leigh (Tucker 64), Hendry (Dennis 81), Maguire (Thompson-Sommers 64), Lemonheigh-Evans, Tripp

Subs: Harness, Harrison

Yellow Cards: Hendry (68)

Goals: Hendry (18)

Walsall: Hornby, C. Barret (Adomah 71), Lowe (Matt 71), Earing, Hall (Lakin 45), Allen (C), Jellis (Johnson 81), Williams, Stirk, Okagbue, Weir (Cleary 45)

Subs: G. Barrett, Maher

Yellow Cards: Weir (13), Jellis (63)

Venue: Stadium MK

Attendance: 6,547 (813)

Referee: James Oldham

Walsall boss Mat Sadler, per Express & Star: “I didn’t think we looked ourselves at all today, which is frustrating.

“Teams are sometimes down to dynamics and we didn’t quite adapt to not having Liam (Gordon) on the pitch on this left hand side.

“You know you’re going to have to do that when the moments come. In this stadium, you want to run their wing-backs back the other way and I don’t think we quite did that enough on both sides.

“Especially in that first 45 minutes, it just felt a little bit tentative in our play which is unusual for us. I don’t know, maybe there was a hangover from being here three or four months ago.

“We wanted to change that and we wanted to make sure that we put a proper performance in today which in the second half we gave it a go. We were on the front foot and we wanted a reaction.

“I don’t think we were anywhere near the levels that we’ve set ourselves in the first half and that’s why you come away from it feeling frustrated because I feel like we’re a good team.

“We’re going to have more positives throughout the season and when you miss an opportunity, it just hurts a little bit more.”

Here’s how fans reacted as MK Dons gives a playful response back to Roy Keane’s ‘who do you think you are’ rant…

@AlexTG_: Love how these clubs get triggered by Roy Keane so much so, they have to post these videos. Post the clip from the Salford game if you’re brave enough

@__Jordz: It’s amazing how so many people won’t realise it’s the striker closing GK down that costs them here.

@nathanrich03: Yes but if you score after playing out from the back but no one was in th stadium to see it, did it really happen?

@WilsonJame99789: I love it, but everything Roy Keane said in that interview was true and none of what he said happened in this video.

@GoatLuamba: couldn’t do it at salford though 😬

@DannyPatterson7: 14th in League 2. It’s working wonders lads, keep it up.

@jxshmaddison: Couldn’t do it on prime time Monday night TV slot against Salford tho 🤣 should be ashamed

@blando98: If only eh… #cufc

@Coisrig: It gets better every time I watch it

@AdamSmith94: Remember when football used to be fun

@drew8hendo88: People love to take things out of context to try and prove a point 😂

@NickShirley23: Fans behind the goal enjoyed that one.

@KieronDay03: We’re so back, no better fuck you than how we played today

@adrianwalker78: Have that, Roy Keane 😂😂

@DylanMcbennett7: Don’t understand the hate on playing out from the back. Why wouldn’t you if you have good enough ball players? Former footballers and their unwillingness to adjust to the modern era is strange

@CharlieBarnicle: Keane was still spot on btw, was used in a different context but this does sort of still prove it even if it worked this time around
