Mixed reaction from fans as Stockport close in on appointment to replace Dave Challinor

There is a mixed reaction from fans as Stockport reportedly close in on the appointment of Rochdale’s Jim McNulty to replace Dave Challinor.

That is according to Pete O’Rourke (@SportsPeteO), who has said that a deal for the 41 year old is on the verge of being agreed.

McNulty has just guided Rochdale to promotion back to League Two, winning the National League Playoff Final against Boreham Wood.

Dale were pipped to the National League title by York City on the final day of the season, McNulty’s side finishing 2nd with 106 points from 46 games played.

As mentioned, there is a mixed reaction from fans as Stockport close in on the appointment of Jim McNulty to replace Dave Challinor…

@sandylaner: Thanks jim, you probably thought job done promotion – now ambitious, new chapters dont blame you. But… great if you had stayed and continue with the clubs growth, stable environment, your fantastic backing from the great owners, staff and fanbase that had your back. Good luck

@joembeebam: Will be getting booed by October. Probably going to get paid double as much so can’t blame him from that view but had so much credit in the bank here. We move on.

@HaydenBrowne5: It was inevitable but didn’t want it to happen 😔

@The_Referee: Spending all day waiting for two manager announcements one in and one out. One I’m happy with one in extremely gutted with. #lfc #rafc

@SCFC_Blue_Army: Initially underwhelming. Hopefully proved wrong.

@DanLove866: Our bit now is just to get behind him & his back room staff whether we’re questioned on the appointment or not. Chally came in without barely any EFL experience and look how far he took us. Let’s give Jimmy the chance and see what he can do with us… #stockportcounty

@AllDaleArentWe: Don’t cry because it’s over, Smile because it happened 🥲

@FGR_sean37: Wow. I thought he was a Rochdale man.

@Will_Butts: Worst possible time for it to happen

@MichaelCaponee: I thought the exact same Sean but when I team like Stockport comes knocking he wasn’t going to turn that down I don’t think

@StatthewMambach: Anyone who judges JM before he’s even step foot in the door needs to take a long look at themselves. There may well be a difference between NL and Lge1, but what he achieved at Rochdale is no mean feat. He clearly has the talent to build, manage and motivate a group of players.

Stuart Cryer: Get Karl Robinson

Rod Herd: Let’s hope that Rochdale have managed to negotiate compensation for the termination of his contract. It also seem likely he’ll take his backroom staff with him too. My own thoughts are that this has been going on for a week or so , which would explain Jim’s message to the fans , last week 🤔

Luke Wh-Itt: Some people were calling for a change anyway before we even got to wembley and won the promotion final. Yes big Jim did it and got promotion but some games weren’t half negative and uninspiring. I personally won’t lose sleep over him leaving and think a change could be good for moving us forward to the next level.

Robert Hampson: Life goes on regardless, if he does go let’s wish him well and carry on where he left off 💙

Denis Herdman: Wish him well if he wants to leave the greatest club in all the world. Remember Jim the grass isn’t all ways greener on the outside

Mark Rollins: Stockport County take a massive risk as good as Jim has been. He has no experience at the level and Stockport want Championship level…

Mike Parr: Well if its true that’s put a massive downer on what has been one of the most incredible seasons we’ve had, I can’t see why he wouldn’t stick around and see where the Ogden led revival goes, he could of been a pivotal part.

Georgie George: They won’t like his boring tippy tappy boring football he will be sacked in less than 18 months. Get the compensation and get Karl Robinson

Michael Earnshew: Not surprised, if Jim McNulty is closing in on a deal with Stockport, if he’s not happy with the terms why has he already left the Dale?

Steven Newton: Because of this can’t see us signing Hayes and Shepherd
